my car starts and will happily drive round at low speeds but when i throttle it the engine dies....?

Instinct would tell me personally to have a look into the carburettor settings, however, We really need more than "my car starts and will happily drive round at low speeds but when i throttle it the engine dies....?" to be able to help you properly.

Does it sound like the engine bogs down, or does it cut as the revs climb ?

WHAT MAKE is the car ?
What size engine is it ? (.15, .18, .21 et al)
HOW OLD is the engine ?
what condition is the engine in?
what fuel are you using?
what fuel % is it ??

*****EDIT*****

DARN IT ALPINE, you beat me while i was typing my response! lol

the car is a hsp tyrannosaurus truck 1/10
its about 9 months old
fuel is 16% and is byron race fuel...
i managed to get it going this morning and it was bogging down again so i unscrewed the high speed needle gradually and it got better but not up to 100% performance of what it used to be. after that tank of fuel ran out it wouldnt start again so its still got a problem.... thanks

If it was bogging down, then that's typically running too rich and you would want to lean the engine (tighten the high speed or low speed needle). Does your engine have a low speed needle? Have you read the Nitro Tuning Sticky yet? If not....I would go start there.

Also what temps are you running in?

i've found there is a lot of fuel collected underneath the exhaust at the joint seam where the exhaust has been welded together as if it has came out under high pressure. Could this be a possible reason why the engine was bogging down under full throttle?
And also how do i check the temperature of the engine? i was told a long time ago that you put water on the engine or something but I'm a bit unsure

not water!! a little spit on the top of the head is a good indicator. I'll let the others explain that one.

Your best bet is to get a temp gun ($15 - $30) to check your temps.

The fuel residue is possibly residual oil from the fuel. A lot would indicate a rich needle setting, although, TBH without pics it's impossible to tell.

so, i'll say this :pics-stfu:

that looks a lot like the seal is blowing a little....

BTW, I posted these pics for you in here, its easier.

Looking at the complete rig, it looks like it's a 1/8 scale rig........................

A bad exhaust leak can cause bogging, I'd say your leak qualifies as bad. Seems obvious, but may only be part of the problem.
