i recently bought 2 of these engines and custom mounted them on a hpi nitro mt and losi xxxnt both had old tired engines that i could not get parts for. i got 20% glow fuel and charger my glow plug starters ready to break them in today. followed instruction sheet exactly and both could not start. i tried for like an hour on both cars and leaned and richened both needles many times. idle needle is bottomed out and wont open more than like 1mm. glow plugs are brand new and glow bright orange. fule system is sealed and tight. plenty of fuel gets to the engine and out the exhaust.

idk if images loaded or not

The only thing that I can think of ,is to check the glow igniter an make sure its firing thee plug!

3 turns open on the HSN might be too rich. I broke in an SH.18 this morning. I tried to run it at 3 turns for the first tank but it was too rich. Kept flooding. I set the HSN at 2 1/2 turns out and it started and ran real good. Just my .02 Hope it helps.

I see your from near me, but there were a few cool days recently. Any idea what the ambient temps were? If it was below 70F, you might want to try heating them up, or now that it's 80F outside, let them sit in the sun for a bit and heat up before trying again. I find that brand new engines don't care to run well, if at all, when they are less than 80F at the head.

You want your idle to be capped at 1mm anyways. No need to open more and less will likely cause you issues. As far as the rest of your settings... Take a slow deep breath! :hehe:
Understandably, you are trying hard to get some enjoyment out of your investment and concerned about bad parts...
Take a look at the pinch bolt under the carb. Make sure that is snug. Don't overtighten. Often, new engines are shipped with the pinchbolts loose to make install easier. From there, get everything set right back to stock settings. Make sure the fuel that you're using is BRAND NEW. Also, DEF check your glow plugs and more likely as a possible issue, the charge on your igniter. Be 100% sure you have a FULL charge. When it's good, pull your plugs and be sure the igniter is making them glow nice and bright! Also be sure that the plugs you have are suitable for the weather conditions and fuel you are using. Double check your fuel lines to be sure they aren't kinked or blocked somehow. Be sure the fuel is reaching the carb, all the way to it. If all of that has been completed and you still aren't getting anything, In SLOW and measured increments, start adjusting your needles. Watch and listen for any change. Any smoke whatsoever from your exhaust etc... That's what you want to follow. By using incremental adjustments, you will be able to adjust back or forward without losing track. Start with 1/4 turns, then in 1/8ths as you start noticing change. Read they these posts. They will be very helpful in getting you thru this.

Remember, patients is KEY! As long as you have patients, fuel, air and spark, it WILL run!
Def post back and let us know what you've done and how you're making out!
Good luck!!! :thumbs-up:

Are you using the OEM plugs for the break in? You said they are glowing, so its possible the plugs might be the wrong temp or maybe too short or too long.

My 3.3's refuse to stay running with the OS LC3 plug (cuts out soon as I take off the igniter). I can't figure out why even though people have run that plug in the 3.3. But with the same tune they run just fine (good actually) with the Traxxas Heavy Super Duty plug. As far as I can see the plugs are identical with the human eye and even rated the same.:(

It's worth a shot to maybe try some other plugs since they are fairly inexpensive all things considered.

Also might want to try heating up the head with a heat gun or hair dryer.

@k3mist I wonder if the issue with your plugs has something to do with the washers???
I did notice the washers are slightly different. The OS provided washers are flatter and don't have that outward and down angle like the Traxxas washer.

There didn't seem to be any problem with the seal on the OS washers. Well, at least I couldn't tell if there were any pressure or seal problems as fuel seemed to flowing from the tank just fine. The sound when it was running with the igniter was a good sound too. I couldn't hear any kind of leak and I didn't see any fuel at the plug, but I am still new at this.

I tried two different OS LC3 plugs (both glow fine). One was in from the previous day and I tried a new one before I dropped the Traxxas in. Honestly now that I think about it I did get a few tanks out of one OS plug. But when I went to run it the next day I ran into this. I always do after run and always take the plug and washer out to put some after run on top of the piston head.

You might be on to something with the washers. Hmmmm. I already put 3 tanks in it today. I might try the Traxxas washer with the OS plug. I still have to install that 21tm but I've been busy.

Yeah, I'm curious about the overall height of the washer. Also, be sure to check the 2 plugs side by side to make sure there isn't some weird lip on one that isn't on the other causing the plug to not reach far enough into the head or something???
