I decided to try this thing out for working on small scale stuff that my poor old eyes can hardly see anymore. I'm not sure yet if I like it better than my magnifying headband yet, but we shall see. I ordered a new magnifying headband that has a better light on it. Once I get that, I'll be able to make a determination.

I have a hard time using this, usually use my clip on magnifiers for fine detail work.

I have a lighted head strap that offers about 10 different magnification levels all the way to 100 x

I have that saved in my Amazon wish list but haven't pulled the trigger yet. ;)
It's great. Has a head strap, or you can use the ear pieces. The LED light is nice too. Highly recommended.

I just bought that to try based on WFs recommendation. Maybe I can retire the lamp. I have an old school visor, but the light on the front is a joke and the magnification isn't nearly as adjustable as this set. Would be nice to find something that works well without the big footprint on my desk. Besides, this cheap AliExpress lamp prolly won't last more than 3 days past the 24-hour warranty 🤣

I'd kinda like to have a magnifying lamp like the one you have as well. But I would want one that hangs from my shelf over my bench. I also wouldn't mind having one of these. But all of these I have seen, the base is too small. I could see a lot of the things I'd use it for would be hanging off the edge of it and moving it around would cause it to get hung up on the edge of the base.

I had to buy the base separate. It only comes with a clamp but the back and sides of my hobby desk dont have a lip to clamp on to. I'm need to see if I can come up with an alternate place to mount it.

so can the magnifying lenses fold up out of the way if needed?

I have one I use everyday as well... sometimes its hard to swing it to just the right spot which is why I ordered the above to test.
