In the other thread I had Lessen and others mentioned you paint the inside of the lid from dark to light. I assume this is because laying down the lighter colors and then dark over them causes bleed or blend?

Despite my complete suckage in the artistic arts, I'm going to pick up a couple of spare lids and figured even *I* couldn't completely screw up single color coats.... but I was wondering if anyone could post some pics/examples of what happens when you paint a light color then back it with a darker color (and vice versa) to better visualize what happens and why you do dark to light.

I got a good example of why backing is important...

Even though this was done dark first (the blue was sprayed before the yellow), because the blue is a semi-metallic it has transparent qualities if it's not spayed with enough light coats or not backed. I attempted to save a couple minutes of time by not backing it and you can see the results. Now granted this is not extremely noticable but it is an example of what can happen when you spray certain colors behind other ceetain colors.

That slight greenish tinge to the yellow? Oh wait, I see where you mean, a little bleed of yellow in the lighter sections of the blue metallic. I can see where that effect might be useful on purpose but it does explain quite well the issues with light-dark.

Thanks Lessen for the lesson :D

Freaks, the both of ya.

You pre-cut your bodies before painting?

I knew that was coming. I also knew it was coming from HIM.

:hehe: Sorry Lessen i had to laugh at that one..
But sometimes you can get cool effects when backing a lighter color with a darker color.. i do it alot with yellows hit it with some orange or black and it gives it different looks ... but i have never painted the darker color in a full coat just shadows and some lines

Yep. I prefer score/snap. Scissors don't come near my works.

Same here.. i amazed a few races here when i mounted a body in less then 2 mins...:D
