Add rum to your fuel.
Your fuel, not the car's. Just make sure the car is good and warm, and it will start. Once it's running, it will probably need to be richened up some, but it will run fine.
After each tank, wrap your hands around the cooling head to warm them up.
Have a nuther ship of rumm.

I wan't to believe you, but I can't bring myself to fire mine up when it's below 25 degrees out... It's currently 16 here with hopes of getting up to 20 today.
I ran last winter some, but it was always when the temps where above 25 or so.
I feel your pain RCDad. I just put new rims/tires and a new os 18 on my hpi nmt last weekend, but it's been so stinking cold around here that I don't want to ruin my new os 18 that I just put on it. I ran 5 tanks through it last weekend, but it was around 30 and I used hot pack handwarmers rubber banded to the engine head. They kept the engine at 80 degrees and between tanks for the cool down at BDC, I put it in my 1:1 under the heater while I fiddled with my savage.

i've got an indoor track nearby that i can flog the truck around on each wkend. thinkin of goin 2mrw b/c they are running. we'll see. cold isnt so bad, more time 2 devote 2 projects, or less time 2 break your car thus needing a project.

Well, it got up to 20 and I went out for the past 2 hours. Had a blast. That OS 18 really screams. The OS 21 RG in the savage was more annoying than anything. I couldn't get the temps up on it and it wouldn't run right.
Anyone know what it means when you get on the gas, let off and it still runs at a high rpm for about 10 seconds or so? I can't remember, and with it being cold, I don't know if it's the cold or if it's a tuning issue.

means its very lean b/c u need 2 richen up the engine when its so cold outside thus the o2 content is so high. this if u have no linkage, air leak, or carb issues.

Hey u guys think you got it bad, it is -30c where i am with a wind chill of -45C

The temps at the glow plug were around 120 when it would studder and die. Ambient was 20F. I leaned it out a bit and the temps went up to 160 and it ran a lot cleaner, but would stick on the high rpm's for about 5-8 seconds when I let off the throttle from WOT.

Olds97, That was the symptom I got with a 2.5 and someone else's .46 Savage engine. It was a leaking backplate and/or carb neck. I sealed both of them with the red RTV and they ran fine after that.

I did that a while back with this engine. Guess it can't hurt to tear it down and re-do it.
can someone please post a pic of how to seal a backplate! I know how to seal the carb but I always hear everyone talking about sealing the backplate... I with my 3 motors I have had, I never sealed the back plate and only have one engine that would not keep a tune. I am getting a .28 for my savage ( my first motor that didnt come with car) and I want it to last me a while
I hate to point you at RCCA, but they had an artical in one of the mags that I got a year or so ago. I have since cancelled the subscription since I wasn't learning anything and thier reviews on new stuff stinks. Very biased...

ok cool... when someone told me to seal my backplate in my head I was thinking they wanted me to place that stuff around the starting shart... I just ingored them and said I am not that stupid under my breath , but now see what he meant .. Thanks for taking you time to find that artical.
