With the approaching storm Rita projected to nail Houston a buddy of mine and I went to Home Depot to stock up on some plywood. The sign for 1/2x4x8 plywood was marked at $13.70 a sheet. While we were counting the # of sheets that we needed on the rack a few employees tore that sign down and replaced it with $16.75 :argue:

Thats bullshit..i know that probably isnt the highest cost in the country for plywood but the only reason why it went up is because people are starting to trickle in to prepare for the storm. I know this happens but its the first time that i actually seen it get jacked up right in front of me.!! We bought 20 sheets.

People in line were so pissed. I was one of them. :hammer:

Good ol'e Home Depot. Always looking to help a man when he's down.

Just because of Home Depots customer service in NYC, I only shop at Lowes.
Home Depot's staff is riddled with nasty people with little product knowledge.

Well thats in Staten Islands HD anyway.

I was never very fond of home depot myself. I realize they sell good products, and usually in bulk (like when I was looking for alans) But my family dont have thatg kind of money. I prefer Menards and Fleet Farm myself.

The home depot by me sucks too. It has a bunch of morons that know little to nothing, and that's if you can even find someone in the first place.

i dont think were gonna get very much wind.. prolly some hard rain but were pretty good inland.. it would have to be a big one and direct hit for us to get to much.. well me anyway.. did plaidfish get any trouble from it?

home dept here is awsomel, i went to buy a lawn tractor this summer and there was a little ding in the hood. they knocked off 200 for that. witch a little rubber hammer that went right out.

It always impresses me how they will do that and then say they're not gouging. And from what I understand, Home Depot contributed a large chunk of money to the Hurricane Katrina relief. I guess now we see how they could afford to do that. I bet if their home office knew about this they'd kick some ass.

During hurricane Alicia we lost 15 trees at my parents house alone and it was only a small cat 3. I lived in the same hood then as i do now. We were out of power for 2 weeks. Being near Burnett Bay the storm surge flooded a lot of houses around here.. It can still be bad here. I'm not taking any chances with this storm.

My wife and I was thinking the same thing. I may call headquarters just to see what they have to say. In fact i think i will.

yall can come chill at my place
i got two extra rooms and three couches

I thought that the law holds them to not raising the price more then 20% for in demand products for disaster items

yep that puts it at just over 20% (22.2 i think) so this would be something you should look into and give'm hell about if they were breaking the law

you didnt pay the new price did ya? You wouldnt have had to by law. You got it at the price advertised. Kinda like if ya were in the middle of pumping gas when the price jumps. They can't charge you more for the gas you already pumped. But yeah, thats a shady thing to do because of supply and demand because of a storm.

i just found out Lowes did the same poop!!!!!!!..they are right across the street from one another.

wouldnt it make more sense if lowes kept it a bit lower, that way everyone goes for the cheaper price. Even though they would make less $$, they would get more customers. So they would make more $$ total.

true, true... I have been watching the news this morning and they just said that now gas station owners arent allowed to raise prices more than 15% or they will get charged for price gouging (sp)

I got to see HD get a huge sale yanked out from their hands....my friend is building a skatepark locally and made a deal for some 80,000 bucks in lumber alone....not counting steel pipe, plate, screws, masonite, skatelite and all kinds of other supplies....they tried to play the ol bait and switch but my buddy had a backup plan for supplier....they lost.....I know in the grand scheme of things to them it's not much but it still feels good to make the store manager have to explain why he lost that sale......
