As many have seen from the pics in the "What Did You Buy Today?" thread, I bought a new Specialized Hardrock bike last week. Let's see some pics and share some fun cycling related stories.

I went and did another longer ride today and when I got home, I tried to get off and fell over because I still don't realize that I'm not under 21 anymore. I laid there laughing while one of my neighbors was horrified and came to help me not understanding that I was just tired not hurt.

I can't wait until tomorrow to go riding again. :D

Good idea for a thread hamz. I road bmx all of my life until I started drinking heavy they I gained too much weight lol. BUT, I'm planning on buying a MTN bike in the next few weeks to try and get some weight shed and back into shape.

Heres my BMX though.

Jay Miron (Canadian Beast) Signature, 1 of 2 sold in Idaho, I've owned both :D

Only ever broke two parts, the stock stem, replaced it with a Specialized and then I turned my 3 piece cranks into a 4 piece lol, which hurt very badly, never replaced them either, just through some mongoose one piece and basically stopped riding.

LMAO! I probably would have just laughed for my yard then if you didn't get up I'd see if you were okay. I plan on buying a bike this spring, I'm in the midst of quitting smoking and getting in better shape but hate the gym so I figured a bike ride a day and hockey 2-3 times a week. I just haven't decided between a mountain bike or a cruiser, if I were to go mountain bike it would be like yours just the front suspension.

Wow that thinks a relic! (I had dyno xr) if I recall correctly around the time that bike came out. My buddy still has my bmx and it's in great shape still too. I was more into street and trails hence why I had a trails bike and I don't remember seeing our hearing about anybody break a 3 piece crank, they where the cats ass abck then and strong as hell.

I purchased a Giant Talon 29er just last year, looking forward to getting back on it when it warms up a bit.

No real stories. Just the occasional "deserved" crashes :D

Well you don't NEED a full suspension. But I would goto your local bike shop and test a Hardtail and then a full suspension. And notice the difference. But a full suspension is going to be a bit more pricey.

Unless you are doing extreme off-road stuff, a hard tail is usually better. I was using too much energy trying to overcome the bounce from the suspension on the last bike I had which was a soft tail. I can feel the difference when I'm riding the new one.

I used to be big into it, miss it sometimes.

When I lived in Houston, I worked at Bike Barn, awesome job. They even give employees a LARGE disount (less than cost) to get them motivated to take up the sport. So, I bought a nice shiny Trek Fuel FS. My buddies at the shop convinced me to go clipless pedals, and took me downtown that night to get a feel for the bike. I think after flailing around helplessly as I fell over to one side or the other at every crosswalk or red light (with all of them laughing so hard they were about to fall over also) about 25 times, I got the hang of remembering to unclip if I was going to stop. :D It was sort of a rite of passage thing for the newbz.

PS: Clipless pedals are the bomb once you are used to them though!

I have not ridden mine yet. But last fall, a bunch of guys at our shop along with some other cyclists made are in the process of building trails at one of the county parks. So far we have about 5 miles of single track and about a mile of double track

Very nice @ausher what frame is on your current one? I want a 24 or 26" DJ too some day. I had a gt with the same frame as your Dyno too, I think they were sister company's too werent they?

Yea they were sister companies. New bike is an '09 eastern Jane.

My dad is an avid road biker. He has a trek road bike and he just got a Scott all carbon road bike. I can't believe how light it is it can't weigh no more than 10 pounds. He plans on doing the ragbri (sp?) This year. I wouldn't even want to drive across Iowa let alone pedal a bike across it lol...

You should look at the new Giant SS STP! Those things are so sweet!

Yeah it is a sexy bike Crimen. Wonder how good the forks are? Not sure if Id want one with suspension or not if I got one.

I would do a Hardtail. The only reason most guys have rigid forks on their Dirt Jumpers is because they save a little weight. I would have a heavier bike and have most of the vibrations absorbed, rather than end up breaking wrists!! :)

Yeah I would never have rear suspension. My dad has a nice Schwinn in full suspension and its the goofiest riding thing to me lol.

Yeah but a Schwinn full suspension is different that a "shop quality" full suspension.

Suspension fork also screws with trying to pump the face of a jump.
