Greetings!

I'm very new to this hobby, and I have a passion for doing things I've never done before. I've recently taken on a project of restoring a Nikko Dictator and I want to do some custom work.

I'm about to use some terms that I'm not 100% comfortable with, so if I misuse them, please bear with me. I'll get there, I promise!

I've got a Traxxas 10280A Differential that I'm trying to put into a gearbox that I'm designed. I want to keep the same formfactor as the original Dictator Gearbox. I know I'll need to replace all the gears to match the diff, but I'm getting tripped up by what is some most likely something really simple.

I know that the diff is going to spin in the gearbox. What I'm not sure is, the (boss?) part the the drive cups attach to -- should that sit directly on the gearbox, or should it ride on a bearing.

If it helps -- this is the diff I'm working with:

When I build my custom gearbox, do I need to put a bearing around the black part (boss?), or does that silver part act as a bushing and sit right on the gearbox itself?

I know, I know... If I can't answer that, I probably shouldn't be doing this... BUT I REALLY, REALLY WANT TO! :)

Thanks for insight!

Well, dang .. that was pretty obvious, wasn't it? Thank you so much for the help... I'm embarrassed to admit how much time I have in to figuring that out. :)
No worries. Any time you're doing something custom, you can almost always find exploded views for whatever RC you're working on. Some are better than others, but typically they're a big help.

Looking forward to seeing this project come together. So please share your progress 😉
