So if one happended to shatter the bottom case on their esc, what would be a good way to repair it. Take this novak GTB case for example.

if the bottom orange plastic shattered but everything else was in excellent condition, what would you do?

Contact novak about a replacement? use a dielectric epoxy to create a new one?

this is all hypothetical........ =devil

This is just me, but I'm thinking you could probably buy a case very inexpensive from Novak, and I believe that when dealing with an expensive piece of eqipment like that, it's important to fix it right the first time.

Now flm, I have to know, how bad was the crash in the on-road to shatter the case of your ESC, which is something I haven't seen before.

figured you would ask.

I'll try to keep this as condensed and entertaining as possible.
Today i went out to our local park where there is a huge parking lot begging for an onroad car to lay some rubber down. So i charged up the lipo, mounted some new tires, and got ready to blast around. I started off slow but started getting faster and faster while improving my drifting. It was pure bliss driving the car around. I played with the suspension and got it to where i could actually nail it and have the car take off instead of spinning around. After about 30 minutes, my rear tires were almost bald and they were SMOKIN hot. I let everything cool off and then decided to drift one more time. I got my speed up and slung the car around. It was just beautiful, tires roasting, car sliding, it just went floating across the parking lot sideways.................right into the storm drain.

Thats right, i drifted the car sideways and into the storm drain. I ran over and looked inside and everything looked ok. There was no water and the car was sitting next to the culvert where the water drained into the ditch/canal. i got a stick and was able to line the car up with the culvert and actually get it inside and aimed torward the discharge. I then had my wife stand at the end to catch it so i wouldn't fall into the canal. Well i started driving and i heard. AHHHHH SLOW DOWN!!!!!! then SPLOOOOSH.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! i ran over and sure enough the car is in the drink with the water right below the roofline. I jump into the canal and grab it. (like its a freakin kid or something. lol) I get everything turned off and it doesn't look too bad,

I get it home and start to pull all the electronics off. i pull the motor apart and its nice and dry. (thank God for good novak seals) i then grab the car which has the esc attached and everything looks ok. no water in the bottom section of the esc and everything looks great. I spray the esc down with contact cleaner and as soon as i stop, i notice the bottom esc case is cracked!!! i grab the esc and the bottom plastic just falls off in about 6 pieces. The esc itself looks great but the plastic is just gone. VERY STRANGE.

SO anyway, i get all the electronics off and cleaned with contact cleaner. opened the rx and cleaned the inside, submerged the car in a hot mixture of simple green and water and shook it furiously. Then i got the blow dryer and cleaned it, q-tip'd it and then oiled all of the bearings with my super bearing lube.

I think everything is going to be ok and the car looks immaculate. the servo works, the motor works and the esc works. I'll have to get some pictures up in a little while but its going to be all good. I love the car and i plan to fix the esc case and then armor all it and get a sweet body painted.

Well I wish you didn't decide to keep it because I was wanting to buy it, but aren't YOU glad that you didn't sell it?

i can't tell you how much i like this car. Its just a monster, plain and simple. it won't flip on you even if you cut the wheel when flying. It will just spin and slide. Its makes onroad driving just as much fun as offroad driving. The pictures bring out more dirt than i realized was there and my spur is looking weathered but its not too bad for being gritty earlier today. Look how good the bottom of the esc looks.

When I got the 6.5 in my stampede the first thing I notice was the orange/clear esc case that looks a little fragile. I wondered what would happen if it broke. Thats the beauty of an rc forum, I can now learn from your misfortune...Let me know how it works out!

i guess your wife fumbled the car on the pick-up?? lol

on a serious note, i'm glad that everything is going to be okay. what kind of car is that, tc??

haha, yeah but i told her it wasn't her fault. i couldn't see how fast it was going so maybe i would have missed it too.

I believe it's a TC5

yep. Associated TC5. belt drive + sensored brushless + lipo = great time

i am around halfway done cleaning it so once i get it all cleaned up and put everything back together, i will probably just shelf it. Don't get me wrong, i love running the car. Its a total blast for sure. I just can't afford to put a new set of tires on it every time i drive it and i don't have the self control to stop roasting them. i like it too much to sell but i think it will find a home on my desk at work. I have a brand new set of $30 tires to go on it and i will be looking at bodies today. I'll get pictures when its all said and done.

i love novak. i called them 10 minutes after closing and they are going to send me a courtesy replacement.

NOVAK4LIFE can i get my username changed? :)

That's so good to hear. People don't understand why I bash on some of the huge companies that sell cheap parts, but this is the way customers should be treated. After spending that kind of money, it's so nice to see a company go out of their way to help you out as quick as they can, as opposed to some of the other companies that have no customer service or a "ticket" system.

I can tell you one thing, I will remember this and always keep it in mind when debating on getting something made by Novak.
