I'm looking to get an on-road car, and other than the initial cost of the car, engine, and radio I was wondering the cost differance in mantaining 1/8 vs. 1/10? Is the pay off of 1/8 worth the money, or should I stick with 1/10 since I not going to race it competitively? If I stay with 1/10, what are some good Factory Team style kits that allow me to choose my engine/radio combo? Any input would be nice, but I don't want this to turn into a "choose my car thread" Thanks

Aside from the initial start up costs, you'll see the 1/8 scale parts cost a bit more, and they will guzzle gas A LOT faster so expect to be buying more gas.

Generally, if you're looking for factory team style kits, they're not going to come with radio gear or an engine. Although I do know you can get an MTX-3 with an engine but still no radio gear.

But just to give you an idea, if you wanna get into 1/8 scale, expect to pay twice as much as 1/10, if not more. The price is the only reason why i've never gone to 1/8 scale. I'd say if you're starting from scratch, to get any good equipment, you're looking at close to $900-1000.

When you make the jump from 10th to 8th most of the kits you find will be high end. I haven't seen any 8th kits that would be a beginners or an entry level starter. I'm sure there are some out there but they aren't the norm. Most people that get into 8th on road are serious racers. The price for a competitive 10th and 8th kit are within $100-$200. All things considered this isn't a big difference.
As for parts, they are going to be close in price. If you are worried about the price of fuel I can recommen a few Knitting and origami forums.

Choose your budget and go from there. The kit will be less than 1/2 your cost. Radio, servo, battery, starter box, and engine depending on what you choose can cost you more than the kit.

If u are not going to get into to racing, I suggest that u stick with the 10th scales. The 8th scale are made for racing which is why mostly the higher end factory makers make them.

stick with 1/10 if you decide to be competitive there are more 1/10 events than 1/8th
here are some great 1/10kits TC3,MTX3,Serpent 710,KyoshoVRRone depend on how much you want to spend

1/8 average 80+ on a drag strip 1/10 have been hitting 70+ on a drag strip
it not all about speed when you are racing it is how your car can handle & your driving skills :smoke:

Thanks for your input. I've been talking to people around here, and they say there isn't any tracks for 1/8 within an hour, so I think I'll be staying with 1/10. It's probably for the better to save a little money anyway. 1/8 would be awsome, but I do have 3 RC's to keep together as it is, and the on-road car will probably sit most of the winter so I can't justify the extra cash.
