Audi/Volkswagen and Porshe have always been the same company. You have luxury division, a sports division, and a "people's" division.

actually humboldt this is only partly correct. VW and porsche started out as the same company, when ferdinand porsche was forced to build the peoples car for hitler. after the company was doing well for several years and hitler was no longer in power ferdinand took leave from VW to start his own Porsche company. they still share some parts compatablity however it has lately only been with parts produced for them by outside companies. early aircooled porsches and VW beetles had a lot of parts that could be interchanged this was due to early cooperation between the seperate companies.

VW/Audi merged many years ago. sorry i can't provide dates without a tedious bit of research.

Corradopsi is right about Vw but I don't think Porsche is owned by anyone. They work with VW like the Toureg and the Cayenne. Fords umbrella is Aston Martin, Land Rover,Jag, Volvo,Mazda and of course Lincoln Mercury.

CorradoPsi knows his history on VW. The same thing happened with Ferrari and Alfa Romeo. Ferrari raced and built with Alfa and then left to build his own Cars.

correct scott. porsche is its own entity but they still work closely with VW on some joint projects. funny thing is the diesel V10 Toureg is faster than the higher end Cheyenne.

So what year Corrado do you own? I have an 01 Golf Turbo but I've been having problems with it since I bought it new.

Corrado, you name alone makes me trust your knowledge in the companies history. I alaways thought they were the same.

Is that the same V-10 offered in the Phaeton as in the Toureg? I know that thing comes with a V-12 and a V-10. One is diesle, can't remember wich. Bad ass car though, I thought I heard it was supposed to come out in America soon.

It is the 1.8 turbo?

I have become a big Infinity fan as of late with the g35 and the my favorite ride the FX35-FX45. Here's a pic and since we are talking cars and who owns what but I'm sure most of you know That Toyota's high end cars are Lexus.

Yes I have the 1.8 turbo.

scott, its a 90. used to be a G60 (supercharged 1.8L 8valve) I've since converted it to a 2033cc 16valve turbo on nitrous.

Humboldt, thanks for the confidance. at one point in history they were the same, just not anymore.

Well i know lamborghini did get bought out by some other manufacturer. They talked about it on top gear

Is that the new 2.0 turbo from VW?

It's seems as though when someone buys lamborghini they take there engine technology just like Dodge had done when they owned lamborghini and then the Viper was introduced.

the 12cyl is actually a W engine not a V. imagine it as 2 V6's joined at the crank. the W12 is a gasoline engine and is shared with the phaeton. the V10 is a diesel engine that produces 350+hp and 550+ ft/lbs of torque. i forget whether or not it is offered in the phaeton in the US but I'm sure it must be in europe since diesels are much more populare there than here.

no its actually a 92 2.0L 16V bored out with a few goodies for my application.

the new 2.0L turbo that VW has been working on is also a 16V but that is because they are not putting the fuel injector in the head, firing directly into the combustion chamber instead of the intake runners. with the injector in the head, there is no longer room for the 5th valve like in your 1.8T. as to whether or not its lamborghini technology i dont know.

Nice ride corradopsi, I love the old school WV's and I wish they would bring back the Corrado again. My freind use to have a Scirroco(Corrodo) I think I spelt that wrong.

Well that I was meaning by lamborghini technology was with the V10 and V12. It's like lamborghini gets bought and sold every 7 years or so and then whoever owns them comes out with a V10 or V12.

I'm not so sure about that. the W12 was in development for many years. in fact its based off of the VR6 engine. that technology is from about 88-89 era. tested in MK2 chassis cars, and finally offered in 92 in the corrado and the passat.

Now I know who to talk to about VW's. That's some good info for me, thanks. I can talk cars all night. I just wish I had the cash to put more nut in my turbo but wife and kids come first. This is why I started up in this hobby, I can beat the crap out of R/c's and not worry about having to drive it to work the next day.

scott, if you havent yet, your engine responds best to a chip (revo seems to give the best #'s), 3" exhaust from the downpipe back, and a cold air intake. after that its big $ to go faster.

Nice ride Corrado. I bought a vw golf 4 months ago. I am not good to convert 1:1 car so basically it is all stock. The only thing I did in the headlights. It was a very good deal that is why I bought it. Kelly blue book priced it at around $5k, and I bought it off a dealer for $3200 cash. It is 96 with 85k miles on it.

Also, if anyone interested in a Ford Mustang please let me know. My neighbor ask me if anyone would be interested to buy his car. So I guess I should help him :)

I looked at the chip last year and it would take me from 150 to 202 but the VW dealer said if they install it, they will not cover the engine, so I gave up on that idea. All I need to do is f up the engine and my wife would get pissed and then tell me to drive her minivan until we could afford the repairs. VW parts are not cheap.

I think we are getting away from this thread, maybe you should start new thread CorradoPsi for Vw owners.

scott there are ways around that. the APR chip has different modes you can set it in. basically its like storing 4 different chips in your ecu at the same time, and you can switch between programs using your cruise control stalk. you could have a chip in the car and your dealer would never know the difference. for some cars they can flash the ecu through the obd2 port so the physical chip is never even changed, just the programming in it. completely undetectable. if you would like to know more, I'm very good friends with the owners of APTuning in lebanon pa. just give them a call at 717-272-0916 tell them chris sent you and ask about what they can do for chips for you. even if you dont have it done there, they can at least educate you about whats available and what makes your cars warrentee void or not.

also, unless its warrentee work never deal with the dealer, they WILL rape you on parts, labor, and usually half ass the work anyway. ill try to find out who a good tuner shop is in your area.
