Cooling fan questions

I have A project in mind but I need a couple small parts( this isn't going to be a huge thing, just something fun)

-Cooling fan: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999139 will that move a fair amount of air?

-I need to be able to run that fan off wall power. Will this:http://cgi.ebay.com/XM-SKYFI-2-ROAD...ewItem?hash=item270196782435#ebayphotohosting work to splice this into a switch and the switch into the fan?

-I would like to have it wired to a switch such as this:http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062531

I will post pics soon after the "Project" is finished

It wont be going into a computer, and it must be able to be a pack up and go type thing.
So a wall plug was my best option.

In theory it would work... but they don't list out the current requirements of the fan. The power supply is a 1A power supply. You need to spec out a fan that requires less than that or you will burn up the fan or the power supply. A 12CM fan is a decent sized fan... Are you dead set on that fan?

Less likely to bust it off if your intention is for it to be portable. Those long toggle switches break easy.

You need to deal with cooler guys than the ones that work at Radio Shack.

I got these 40mm (1 9/16") fans for a brushless ESC heatsink from them.

My intended use for this fan is modding a X-box 360, so there is no power supply that I want to run it off of.

Wile running the fan off the power of that Xbox its self would be a little more convenient It will also put more strain(heat) on the Xbox.
So thats the reason I need to be able to power it off the wall.

I'm not set on any certain fan, But I can't have one with big heat sinks and things on it and I would like it to look as nice as possible because of the way I am mounting it.

SILLY PERSON YOU ARE!!! you believe that a fan thats sucking up an extra 2watts will cause a drastic change in temperature?!?!!?!? if your going to do a project like this, do it properly. add a wire to the outputs of the power supply, and stick the fan on it. the power supply can easily power so much more, well over 5x120mm high performance variable speed fans which can could compete against your vacuum cleaner. thats as stupid as taking off all your PC fans and rerouting the circuitry to an external power source to help relieve the 'stress' of the power supply. its a stupid idea that you should never of opened your mouth to say.

I'm pretty fired up at this because usually those kind of mods are simple, and i never thought anybody would remotely think of something so outrageously silly (you can really see the way I'm restraining all those words.)

any xbox modder will tell you what I've said. and i dont even have an xbox.

Ok, after reading this post about 10 minutes ago I am finally done chuckling and I can answer your post.

I can definitely understand what you said.
I was simply going off the info I've been reading about not getting xbox coolers that were powered by the xbox its self because of the reasons mentioned above.

But then again they were also referring to the stand that has a couple fans and lights around it.

I also plan on putting 2 4" cathodes in the modded case, any info on this subject?

cathodes?? a cathode is just a negative electrode. dont you mean LEDs or neons? they run on DC, not AC

youll best to go look around on the net and finding out how much your xbox uses in power, the xbox power supply's rated power, and then you can leech as much electricity off that power supply. just leave a few watts spare. if theres not enough spare power, dont waste time on a wall supply, go find a new or mod your current power supply to give more power. a more powerful supply will actually run cooler given a certain demand, that is, a 500W supply giving 250W will run cooler than a 300W giving 250W.

i still strongly suggest you investigate the power ratings of all the important components then decide whether you need to mod/buy a better supply or not. buying a much higher rated powersupply will run much, much cooler, possibly eliminating the whole need for a fan. just an idea for you

but dont forget to show us pics before and after you finish.
