ok guys i dont mean to sound like a dumbass but i want to try my hand at airbrushing.. now i know i need the "brush" wand air paint thing.. but on the compressor part.. do i need a special compressor or will the one i use to fill up the car tires and blow off the savage work?? this is the one i have
DSC00266.gif

so can i use it and just turn down the regulator or is it to much.. also what will i need to connect the "brush" to the compressor as you can see i have quick connects on everything for the compressor.. also any links to cheep but effective "brushes" would be great.. not looking for anything fancy.. just like masks and stencles and stuff.. but it would be hard to do with a big ol rattle can.. thanks for your time guys..

That will work as long as you can regulate the pressure. Also, it is a good idea to have a moisture trap if it doesn't already have one.

I use one of these adapters to attach my airbrush hose. Just thread it onto one of your quick connects.

I also wanted to try out airbrushing... I have a compressor as well, but it doesn't have a water trap... not sure about the reg on it... It is old as hell, runs all the time... Somewhat noisy, but not nearly as noisy as the newer ones i have heard...

You could always get a long line for it and put it outside from where you are so you dont have to listen to it :) It nice though having it right there where you can adjust the air pressure.

Run a hose to the regulator and then tap off that for your brush hose...that's how I'm rigging mine up...and for those thinking the moisture trap isn't neccessary...it is....don't try and be cheap on those or your regulator.....water in the line can really screw up your paint job......

Here are the disposable filters I was talking about. http://www.spraygunworld.com/Information2/AirFilters10.htm I would still recommend using the one for the compressor too.
As plaidfish said water in the line is really going to screw up the paint. Not to mention if you are trying to use an older compressor and a little bit of oil would come through....

regulator controls Air flow...moisture trap will prevent water (or oil) from getting out through the brush....2 very different items....

so all i need is a moisture trap and the little adaptor, a air brush, and some skill... got ya thanks guys..

I have a 100ft hose for my compressor... I dont know how to set it up though... It runs off on 240volts and we only put a few of those outlets in when we built the house... unfotunatly, they are all in the garage. I'm guessing i should do my painting in the garage, since it is paint! Since i have a compressor, how much would it be to buy a semi-nice airbrush and all parts needed for the complete setup. I have never done this before, but would really like to give it a try. Sorry to hijack the thread, but beason looks like he got all the info he needed... I'm still lost...

100' of hose...how freakin far is your house from th egarage????
you can just add more hose to that and mount the regulator and drier near your work space and just pull the hose to there when you want to use it....garage is better for the mess but inside A/C and clean is better for the paint....

yea u dont need that much hose .. u want to keep a short hose .. might help cut down on moisture buildup in the tank as well...

Actually, the garage is connected to the house. When we were building the house though, we had to use the nail guns and such all the way at the other end of the house (about 100ft or more). If i can use that hose and bring it into my room or something, that would be awesome. So, can i mount a Reg and water trap on the hose, or does it have to be on the compressor?

water trap is inline meaning it gets installed in the hose.. ether at the tank or at the "paint station" then you conect the hose to it.. the reg on mine is connected to the tank.. but i dont guess is has to be as long as you have high pressure hose.. I'm guessing you could accually mount the water trap and regulator on the wall where your gonna paint.. and put a quick connect on one end and a connector for the air brush on the other.. then just connect the hose and the brush when you want to use it..

I'd make a lil station to mount em at your bench where you'll be spraying...then just hook the hose to the air drier and you can leave everything else permanent in your booth

saw a guy on a computer mod forum that used an old stand up shower stall as a pait booth.. worked great now i need one!!!

my old partner and I used his second bathroom after we installed false floor/ a fan pulling the paint down & a dayton exhaust fan that could suck your shirt off your back.....and ran the water in the stall under the false floor to keep the paint going down the drain....I feel sorry for whoever bought his house cause we did at least 100 bikes in there in a year...that drain has got to be fudged now.....

Do i need a booth??? I dont know where i am going to paint... I dont think the parents would like me painting anywhere, although my dad thinks its a good idea... I will talk to them about a spot, and see if i can't get something going.
