my dad and i r getting a mayhem rtr this fall, and would like a racers opinion on some upgrades 4 cheap. anything will do thanx.

If you guys can afford it, I'd say try to find a nice used mugen buggy over the mayhem. In the long run you'll save money buy not having to buy as many parts.

Well, the mayhem seems to be a really nice car and you can't go wrong w/ it IMO. But keep in mind that the RTR's have .26's which are NOT race-legal, only .21's are. A good pair to consider are the Hyper 7 PBS RTR's. $410 a piece, then get yourselves some nice servos (645mg for steering- $40; you could get yourselves some nice throttle servos for around $40 as well) Then get some new tires ($60)

Then you're at $510-550 a piece And the OFNA's have good parts support as well.

Or, you could wait for the Hyper 8's to come out and get yourselves those...

But, the mayhem rtr is a really nice car, and comes w/ a nice radio, but it also has a .26 which is not race-legal, however, your local track might let you race w/ those for a while...

I don't understand the opposition to the mayhem in the us

I own a mayhem and I equal the mbx5 and certainly the xb8, at my track
I have the money to buy whatever I want
but I like the mayhem so much I can't race another car
I find also the big brands buggys are to expensive, certainly in europe
gs cl-1 being sold 948.00, in the us 539.00 !!

I run it 9 months now and didn't break a thing and having a ball
it is really a great, well engineered car
parts,for a cheap car, are beautifully designed and solid, I would say to mugen standards, I can't imagine how they manage to do it at Sportwerks for that price, assembled and all
I mean : in a way you are right; if I would buy another car it would be a mugen
if you can spent the money, get a mugen and you get the best, and won't even have to spent any more money afterwards to improve if you care
if you don't have the money or don't want to spend that much for this hobby at once, you will be as happy with the mayhem, having fun tuning your mayhem to be as good in the end as a mugen on your track

I would say like untchbl said. If you plan on racing get the best of the best right off the bat. You can get a great car for 300-350, os rg 110, 80 for some servo's. 550 would get you a rig race worthy!

I think the best bang for the buck would be the ofna ultra comp rtr or whatever it is. That thing can be had for 299 in rtr form. It is a tank compared to anything else out there in the price range. Lot's of guys here in oklahoma city are driving them.

Both the MBX5 and the Mayhem have pretty good reputations around tracks. You would be happy with either buggy, theyre both solid. If your local shop carries alot of mugen parts that is something to consider, but I bet there is more than 1 shop in the state. Also Mayhem parts are easy to get from horizon, and most good shops have horizon as a distributor and can special order anything you need.

Alot of people want to say one buggy is so much better than the other (especially if they own one of them), in some cases its true but the mayhem and mbx5 are both in a good bracket of race worthy buggies. If you get a mayhem rtr I would get the one that comes with a .21 engine so you are legal for sanctioned race.

I tell people like this: If you've never owned a nitro RC then the Mayhem rocks....If you are a psuedo racer, then the mayhem rocks......if this is a novelty item to putz around at the park and jump cool stuff once in a while, then the Mayhem Rocks.......but if you are a performance oriented person/If you like racing and know this is something you'd want to do/If you have a clue as to how to tune your RCs (not just engine tuning but Chassis tuning too) then do yourself a favor and just save a few more coins and get an MBX-5 or X-ray.....I'd also agree w/ Untchbl on th eHyper.....much stronger Buggy.....

Disclaimer-I do not own a mayhem, or plan to buy one soon!!

...but, the mayhem has finished among the top ranking buggys in sanctioned races here in the US so it would be folly to call it a "pseudo racer"...its built well enough to take you as far as you want to go.

Yeah I could race a mayhem if I was backed by a factory sponsor as well......I do race 1/8 scale...I do see what happens at the track to mayhems and Ofnas and Storms and I gotta say I'm not terribly impressed w/ em....they come w/ a nice mill and radio and the car is a decent mid level racer......out of all the mid range buggies the OFNA is the toughest car but you have to upgrade the radio to limit interference and it has a decent mill too.....the storm has just fallen off from what I originally thought of them...the pro version is nice but like I said if you are a performance oriented person (you know if you are) then I wouldn't recommend the mayhem.....

One reason ofnas and storms and mayhems have alot of downtime is because they are common brands among new drivers. Too often new drivers dont dedicate themselves to upkeep and repair. Whenever one of the experienced guys decides to pick up one of these "lesser" models they hold up fine with the mugens kyoshos and xrays. Lots of the entry priced models do require extensive upgrades to compete, but I dont place the mayhem in that group. Among rtr's (which is where most new guys want to start) it is one of the best.

I have just gotten my RTR Mayhem. I'd like to decrease the turning radius. Its not pushing, just not stearing sharp enough. Any advice?

cut 2 mm of the frontarms
and car will have more steeringforce like a jammin

you can also cut a bit in the lower part of the steeringblocks
where you see the steeringblocks can't go any further though to the arms hitting them
and get better radius
