What type do you use? I used to use Cobra's comm cutting fluid, but since that stuff has a poor shelf life, I'm looking for options....

(and yes, I did search....)

If you mark your comm with a sharpie thats all you should need. The ink will lube it enough.

At first I thought fluid was a mandatory item until I started asking around. There are several extremely competent builders locally here and they all recommend using a Sharpie.

Just make sure you put a drop of bearing oil on each end of the shaft before you start your lathe.

Alrighty, I shall give the sharpie a shot... I've got tons of 'em layin around here in all different colors (I'll spare the smart question, lol). I've got some old trinity bearing oil... The stuff looks like it's the same stuff as the comm cutting fluid.

I used the sharpie also. It also helps you see that were your cutting.
You only want to take off the marker. Don't cut too much off.
