I need to mix up some olive green for a body I am working on, and have not had any luck getting it mixed yet. Anyone know what colors would work best to use to get a dark olive green?

It's a combo of blue and yellow (obviously), and I don't know what other color.
I'll do some research.

From the research that I just did (looking at color wheels), start with blue and start with little drops of yellow.

Use small amounts till you get the color you want. When you get it, then you can try a sprayable amount of a mix.

I did this one a while ago:
15Power2.webp

Now if I can remember what I used..
I believe I started with flourescent green and just muddied it down. If you have some brown, that should take green down to a nice olive.

Damn, I can't find my recipe. I'll see if I can find it and let you know.

Not quite the color I was looking for Candyman, but thanks anyway. I need a darker olive green.

Ratzo, blue and yellow huh? Noooooooo really, so that makes green?

Don't mean to quote myself but I just did. :thankyou:

I said OBVIOUSLY......:arrr:

if your going for an army olive colour try using a fluorescent yellow, blue, a small amount of green the cheap acrylic tube paint colour and use a small amount of black to darken it
not sure if thats completely right but if you add some red you would get an army brown as well
i remember getting it spot on years ago when i was about 10 i was using some tubes of acrylic paint

i have a question not really a colour mixing question but about paint colours
What sort of colour would you get if you backed custom colour sapphire flip paint with metalic blue

I tried that, it just got all muddy looking.

I dunno bro, that's what I've always done in the past and it seems to work fine for me..

hmmm... try adding a drop of purple maybe?

OK, Joe, try this. First, make sure the green is kinda bright. If you have sorta a standard green, add a touch of white. Just a bit. Then add about an equal amount of yellow. Once that mixes, it should be a weird green color. Then add brown drop by drop until it gets to that drab color. I just did it using Createx Flourescent Green, FasKolor Yellow and FasKolor Brown and it was looking pretty good.

Thanks Jeff, I appreciate you trying that out for me. I have all the colors you mentioned so once the kids are down for the night I'll head out to the garage and give it a try.

I just used some parma colors to mix a "Richard Petty Blue" try to use some Brown color to get a mix you like ...and pick up a mixing bottle... try three to five drops of each to get the color to get the color you want ...then when you get the right porportions instead of drops use milleters ....aka one drop =5 milliters :wasted:

yellow, blue and try fastint. That worked decent for me. Ill see if I can find a pic.

What paint brands are you using? If you're using Pactra, their black is a blue based pigment. For the most part, Fasblack is also a blue based pigment.

For a decent OD green, use non-glow or flourescent paints, and no metallics. Take a basic yellow, about 7 drops, add one drip black and mix thoroughly. If it comes out too dark, add a few drops of yellow. Next, add a drop of a non-metallic/flo/glow medium blue. You should wind up with a baby turd green. If you need to lighten it up, add a drop of white to pale it some. If it's too light, add a drop of fastint. OD Green will never come out quite right because you're painting on the inside which makes it look glossy. Hope this helps.

Before mixing in a jar or in your airbrush, mix on some plastic wrap to fine tune the formula and keep good notes on it to make it easier to reproduce in your airbrush or in a jar.

When you guys mix paint, do you keep the mix? or do you dispose of the extra? I was mixing oranges and yellows, but then I had extra and I didnt know what to do with it.

I keep all the mixx's i had till they went bad. Keeping a mix is a great idea, You may end up finding a spot where that color would work awesome. i know i did.

When I mix paint, I mix in my paint cup. I keep a small notepad beside me to write down the paint formulas I use so I can easily recreate them.

Florescent Yellow backed with black (instead of white) produces a pleasing green.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but a little late, lol. I ended up screwing up the paintjob and stripping the body and going with a totally different paint job.

I'll keep these in mind for next time.
