On a serious note, that really hasn't been my experience. I even joined an rc flying club last year, which also has a dirt track, and with the exception of a couple of members, I just didn't gel with these fellow hobbyists. I didn't bother renewing my membership for this year.
On the other hand, my experience has been very positive with meeting gun people. As a matter of fact, I ran into one while at Walmart today, and I had a pleasant conversation with him on the subject of guns.

I tried a couple of different types of "clubs" over the years. That poop's not for me apparently. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with not fitting in. I personally think people are batshit crazy these days anyway.I have almost no filter but I talk to everyone and love to socialize, my wife thinks it's a gift but with peoples current level of st00pit on every subject from politics to racism to simple cultural and social differences it makes me just want to keep to myself. I'll go hang out with anyone that likes to RC but I get some strange reactions to my builds from the "box-stock" and "wash n wax' guys just like in the 1:1 car world lol. I always bring a lot of spare parts when I go out so I make friends pretty quick and that's .
The wife and I went to an indoor crawler event last year in the area and it was fun but people hardly spoke to us. It's probably my age.... We got 2nd and 3rd place but there were only 3 entries . We talked about going back but the place was for carpet racers, not for us. I do wonder if they would let me run my 3s go-kart on their track tho.
Probably not.
