hi, my savage 4.6ss cluch springs jus keep snaping :hammer: The car just seems to rev. I have also had trouble with the spur gear slipping. Please help me.

Are you installing them correctly? I've been running the same clutch on my savage for 13 gallons. Same springs, shoes and bell. I think I've replaced the bearings once though.

Granted, it's not the 28, but still, I don't see why more power would break springs. That would explain your slipper slipping or clutch shoes melting, but I don't think it would have much impact on the springs.

first for the springs .. are you sure your puting the clutch shoes on the right way? looking at the slot for the spring, the thick side should go towards the flywheel....& step up the the mugen 1.1 clutch springs http://www.carolinasrc.com/Webstore/Scripts/prodView.asp?idProduct=111

is the spur nut tight ...you should tighten it all the way then back it off about a 1/4 turn ...if it is you probily need new slipper pads

thanks olds ... i thought i was the only cheap bashing bastard who didnt change my clutch bearing every couple runs or gallon of fuel ...after reading replys on clutch bearing threads :)

Dont no if I'm installing them correctly. The springs on the pic in the manual have a 90 bend on the end of leg and on the drawing they dont???

this happened to me as well when i first got mine built. truck wouldn't move. instructions are truly unclear on clutch spring install.
heres a pic of how it shouldbe. HPI could use this pic as a full page with how many people are confused on how to install them.

hope this helps. its help quite a few people.

Just ordered mugen springs and shoes, hope that works?
Thanks all.

The stock shoes and springs are fine. I suspect an incorrect install.

You do not need the Mugen setup.

Paid 4 them now. Gonna make shure I fit them right.

From what I understand the clutch shoes will snap outwards due to cetripital (sp?) motion and engage the CB. I recently read something about clutch shoes breaking being attributed to the speed and force with witch they slap outwards and engage. Maybe you are revving it too high at first, causing them to buckle? Howare the new ones working if you have em?

the only time i snapped a clutch spring was when my clutch nut came loose.. that lets the springs spin on the nut and eats them away at the point where they touch the nut.. where did yours break?

Hey Rastaman you need to change that FW Nut to one w/ a higher groove in it.....I've never had to make my springs twist that hard to seat them......is that how everyones savage clutches look????

wow that's crazy looking twisted....I had a savaage for a whoping few days and I rebuilt it after getting it (used) and what a PITA...my springs never looked like that.....I have a box of different clutch items though and I try to use parts that line up neatly.....did you guy s switch from the stock setup or did it always look like that???

at the point where they touch the nut..
Thats where mine snapped. Looked like sumthing was grinding it, but the clutch screw was tight.

the flywheel may be spinning.. that would explain your reving.. take everything aoart and replace the collet to be safe.. then make sure you tighten it up good

Mines aftermarket and it's nowhere near as twisted... I thought the same thing when I saw the pic, but didn't want to say anything.

I can't remember what the flywheel nut is that I'm using... I want to say it's a traxxas nut that I ground the top off of because it was made for a normal threaded shaft. It was a nut with the shaft extender on it for the CB to ride on.
