Hate to tell you this kids, but Emo is a trend that is going nowhere fast. Save yourself the future embarrasment of having to admit you were one!

I just posted this on a Flight Instructor forum...
Just great! Any kid needs one!

Well, clearly I'm showing my age by not knowing until now there was such a think a "Emo Kids", I just assumed they were all just dumbasses (much like I was when I was their ages!)

I wonder if, because I like a few of the bands they mention, that makes me an Emo Kid? Check it out, I'm a 37 year old Emo!! WHOOOO HOOOOO!

I'm not discounting that there are many kids this age that have legitimate issues they are struggling with, be it family problems, abuse, neglect, feeling "different", drug and alcohol addictions and the like. I'm not in any way trying to dismiss them, but I think what is compounding them is the Internet, text messaging and all the other outlets available to them. Think about it, when I was a teenager, your basic outlet or support group were the small group of close friends and maybe a journal. No I'm, no "MySpace", no blogs. Now, when a kid feels ostracized, they can jump on the web and within seconds find an entire group just like them. Then they all start venting and a mob mentality takes over. Pretty soon, you start seeing these jackasses posting videos of themselves acting out this supposed angst and beating on each other for no other reason than because they perceive each other as weird. They do it partly, in my opinion, simply to post and glean their 15 minutes without thinking, "hey, the whole world can see this and it may stick to me the rest of my life!" or be used to convict them!

I'm not saying these Emo Kids are any weirder or different than my generation was when we were that age, they are just displaying and expressing it in their own way. Each generation seems to need to establish an identity (for example, I'm a gen X'er) although I never perceived myself as being full of angst towards the government or especially attuned to the environment.

Given all that, I will continue to make fun of them when they come into the skate shop, though. It's my right as the older generation to do so, much like the generation before me made fun of my generation!

As is mentioned in The Lion King, "it's the circle of life."

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE RULES!!!!!

emo = emotional Hardcore...yes...but it started as a positive emotional outlet from bands like FUgazi, desiderata, ignition, egghunt and 411 all bands that had positive messages in the lyrics......I used to like hearing a band was "emo" now I hear that and I want to take an acetyline torch to the stores that sell that crap...instead of hearing about the virtue of monogamy or the self respect of not lying or being a stand up guy for what you beleive in ...now it's an emotion of self pity and crying like whiney turds...Oh my girlfriend is a lying skank I feel depressed....or my mommy didn't hug me enough so I'll just toss my life in the shitter and be "EMO"....hey my life sucks too, I got a helmet instead of crying about it......I love talking to the freaky looking kids and hearing what they think about their scene...what it does for them and how they came to enjoy their own world....lately I only see the new trendy Emo freaks and they equate to what I call mall punks.....clueless kids jumping on a band wagon trying to be in with the cool people....well all I can say is...Sack up and take a huge dose of reality, when you surround yourself with this crap expect to catch some poop for being a moron.....wear your self pity like a hairpeice eypatch and spray paint your fruity pants on to flirt with cross dressing but still declare your machismo intact...whatever, just don't be surprised when people call you out for what you are....A BIG FREAKIN LAH-WHO-ZER......dress like a freak and be unique...but do it because you want to express your own fashion sense, not because everyone else is doing it.....the fact they associate this scene with punk in ANY way just makes me sick......punk opened minds and shattered music boudaries by proving you can play a 3 chord monty and still make music that just jams.....EMO is a MTV version of what punk has become.....I feel all heated..I need to go pogo to some polka music now.....

Emmo kids? Either I'm getting to old or I live to far out in the country and am secluded fm this type of stuff or maybe both. Hell I'm 43 and we just smoked alot of pot and watched cheech and chong. It's important for younger people to let they're anger out but screeming unintelligable words into a microphone? How bout some Queen or AC/DC? I guess I'm just feeling my age but thats not really a bad thing cus I can teach my 16 year old son that there are better way's to get rid of anger that walking around with holes in his lip or listening to ear bleeding music. How bout going hunting or fishing? I'm not making fun of those that are the Emmo generation it's something new that we in the middle of Wisconsin dont see or hear about.
