Hey all, Trying to help a buddy out by putting my Savage s-25 engine into my friends T-maxx. What do i need to do it and what is the cheapest method so it holds up?? thanks!

If his T-Maxx is not already a .21 converted Maxx, then there really is no cheap way to do it.

XTM makes the cheapest most complete kit but it dosen't touch the transmission which will be the most expensive and hardest part to upgrade. RRP or UE is about the only way to go w/ diffs and the trans, and both are expensive.

My first suggestion would be to get a savage to put it in... That would also be the second, third, fourth...

Somewhere down that list, (around fiftyith) I'd suggest an XTM 21 conversion. They are around $100 and are about as cheap as you will find.

Here's another one that doesn't require a lot of work RCAlloys 21 Extension Kit Not sure as if I'd recommend it, but it looks a lot easier and quicker to set up than a full chassis conversion.

Here's the page with the prices RCAlloys Price List

btw, i go to NIU

just trying to help my Maxx buddy out.

... and are any of these .18 size motors such as the Wasp a good choice for direct drop-in? I know the .26 size is a decent choice for applications welcoming accepting the drop.

I just posted this in another thread, but, the orion is ok depending on what you want to do with it. It isn't a power beast by any means, but it gets my truck up and going faster and runs cooler than the OS 15 cv-r(x) I did have in it.

If you don't want to be dumping fistfulls of $ into the maxx, I'd suggest staying with an engine that is rated under 2hp. From what I've read, the EPIC 18 puts out more hp than the wasp and the new OS 18 would probably work as well.

BTW, I think we chatted once before, but I'm not sure. Did you post a pic and ask if I recognised the place? If so, I haven't found the damn place the pic was of...

heh, ill keep it my secret dekalb spot then :naughty:
ill look into these other motors.
yea, we did chat before.

I've seen chassis kits on ebay but I don't know how good the quality would be.

I did the conversion to my Maxx for a Hyper 8 port .21 and all in all Id estimate it costed me $300 without the cost of the motor itself.

$130 for the XTM kit taht includes basically everything except a few minor parts (Maybe $10 worth)
and the rest I have into bulletproofing the tranny which costed alot, and wasn't the funnest time I've ever had with my Rc.
Id go with just buying a savage to put it in. Otherwise just get a Drop in.
I'm not saying it isnt going to be worth it. The truck will go like a raped ape, I'm just saying it wasn't the cheapest thing. (Mines STILL sittin here waiting for a couple small parts and some time to putz with it.)
