name that pile!!

surprisingly enough, its rediculously easy to tear apart a revo. 5 screws in the back, 7 in the front, and the ends slide right off. anyway, while i wait for a carbon fiber chassis to become available, i want to get the anodization off this thing. anyone know a good way do go about this? i could do it with photoshop, but that wont do me too much realworld good.

i work for a steel company - cives steel - and i think i could send it to the shop and have them put it in the wheelabrator. thats a big machine where they spray stuff with micro-sized BB's, like sand blasting, to get the mill scale off it. I'm not sure how it would take to aluminum... might disintigrate it, so i would like to know if theres an easier way. until then... blue it shall be.

duly noted... greased lightning and neverdull it is!

really, i just wanted to post a pic of my scrap heap... ah well though.

*wanders off with tail between legs...*

I can't remember who, but someone here has a nice setup at home. He's shown photo's of the stuff he polishes up. He has one of those bead blasters as well which get off the ano, but leaves it dull. Then he spends time with a polishing wheel to make it have a mirror finish.

I don't think there's a way that doesn't require elbow grease. I read an article in XRC about home anodizing and they explained what ano really is. It's in the pores of the metal, which means you have to remove metal to remove the ano. Granted, it's only a few thousands of an inch, but still, your probably going to weaken it a little.

he greased lightning will strip it off in no time right befor your eyes..
Mallanaga i wasn't trying to be an ass.. its just that thread was done MABY two weeks ago so it was fresh and should have been close to the top if you would have searched for it.. plus it answers all your questions.. nothing against you just trying to cut down on the multiple redundant threads.. greased lightning does wonders.. the oven cle3aner does it to but is slower and leaves your metal black plus pits it if you leave it in to long.. I've dont 4 wheels, 4 wheel nuts, a head, a fuel filter, and 4 shocks, i wouldnt do it any other way.. the media blaster would prolly even take longer.. i mean 10 minutes and most of its off..

np beason, i kicked myself knowing i should have searched. I'm not a noob when it comes to forums, but it would appear so. anyway. greased lightning!!

that chassis being so wierd shaped, i put it in a bread bag and mixed the lightning half and half with water. i let it soak for about a half hour, when i came back it was PRISTINE. polished her up with some neverdull, and here she be.

i did my front and rear bulk head ties, and the fuel filter too. good poop. thanks for the info, beason. I'm not going to bother with my head or pipe, because i will be ditching them both soon enough. gotta get black arms too... then the orange and black of the RB will be perfect! anyway, this was easy to do... my hands were a little slippery from the lightning, but it went away after about an hour. good poop.

yea it will take the skin off your hands tomorow unless you used gloves.. sorry i forgot to tell you that.. when i was doing my wheels i had to keep spraying them and stuff.. i couldnt soak them so i got it all over my hands.. add your pics to that thread for all the new noobs.. maby they will sticky it later as a "stripping anodization how to" glad you got it done man.. looks sweet.. what color scheem you going for?

fire. white hot, with reds, oranges and blacks. I'm on my way, but its a work in progress. my next step is to find an expert air brusher. i want real looking flames on my CP2... itll be hot... well not really, but you know. thanks again for the tip.

lol thats funny olds..

if your serious its a cleaner like mean green or simple green 409 ect.. but whatever is in it does a great job of removing the anodization from aluminum parts.. not what its ment to be used for but it works...

havent you seen the musical? you call the people up and they come and dance around your truck. when theyre done it looks like youve always wanted it to... DUH!

jk, anyway.

its basically just high tess cleaner. good stuff it seems. i still love my simple green though.

if you want someone to do it theres a couple of them on here that do it like diver and 4u2nv he does bead blasting
