Well last night i picked up something on the back roads and put a hole in the oil pan of my 350, i was wondering if anyone knew if i would have to pull the whole engine to change the oil pan? or can it be done with the engine still installed.

Thanks in advance, and Happy Easter.

Depends on if you can get the front of the pan past the crank journals. All the GM's I have ever had I had to unbolt the engine mounts and jack the motor up a little to get the pan off due to the front cross member being in the way. Then there was the Nova with the steering linkage running through the pan...

*EDIT*
Ignore mine!

Depends on how it's set up. You need to look underneath to see if there are any cross members or linkages in the way. Sometimes you can get around them by removing a couple of engine mounts and jacking the engine higher to give you more clearance.

EDIT:
It appears that RC Addict and I both posted at exactly 2:37, so you can ignore either one of the posts. Preferably mine.

Alright, i'll take a look at it later on and let you guys know how it goes.

I was thinking along the same lines and going to suggest JB Weld.

I'll just echo what people have said before with the it depends upon the set up. If you end up not having the space needed, you shouldn't have to fully pull the engine though.

if u do have to lift the motor up just lift enough to clear the oil pan. be careful hen puttin in the front and rear main seals too they can be a booger.

Regardless of the engine being in the truck or not, you'll most likely need to take the timing chain cover off to get the pan out of the front main seal without damaging something. It be better to have the engine out, so you can get to everything easier. It would suck to go through all that work and have a leaky cover afterwards.

And if you ran over a rabbit using said gum, it would get in your hare......

rolex you been watching red green to much. AND you guys forget the baleing wire. a quote from red green "spare the duct tape spoil the job"

red green is the leader of a mens lodge/club. what makes him so funny is he is Canadian. eh i think Canadians are very cool. i even thought about moving there.
