Dragster engines

Hey guys, I am new to the sport and have been doing Alot of research, I don't have a rc yet but have pretty much came to the conclusion that I will be getting a traxxas revo 3.3 for bashing around. I have also came to the conclusion that superchargers are absolutely of no good to a 2stroke engine and I'm sure the subject has been beat to death! Now what my question is though is that I see on Alot of YouTube videos, the dragsters that run 132 feet strips sometimes have superchargers. I am just curious and can't seem to find any info on what kind of engines and supercharger set ups are the using? Are they using 4 stroke engines or gas engines? I am pretty sure the dragsters are bigger the 1/10 scale correct? Another question off the subject is can anyone help me decide if I should buy a revo 3.3 or platinum? I plan on doing Alot of upgrading to my revo so maybe I should just go for the platinum?

There are a few different threads on the dragsters and superchargers for scale projects. Try the search function.

Thanks I found it but not much info like I requested, I am just looking for a link for dragster superchargers but not that crappy rbinovations website. Do I need to do a search under each category or does it search all threads altogether. Sorry I am really new, but I have been doing my research and am more just curious to a few subjects. Thanks

Airplane engine in revo?

Hey guys I know I am asking a few questions all at once but I am about to buy my first rc truck and have been Doug Alot of research to make sure I get the right truck before I buy it and along doing my research I came across a few questions I was curious about so I'm asking. Has anyone every put a airplane engine in your revo or any other truck? I know I will eventually want to put a big block in my revo, and am pretty sure the picco .28 is what I'll be getting when I do, but I see that new era has a conversion kit for up to .70 now I could not find any engine that big unless it was a aircraft engine. Now I know you are all going to tell me that anything bigger then a .32 and maybe even that, is way to much moto for a revo. But what I'm not to worried about raring stuff up. That's the name of the game and the fun to me. Of course you would need steel gears and upgraded drivetrain and all that I know, and even then it would tare stuff up. So can you put a airplane engine in your rc truck?

The only engine a supercharger will work on is a four stroke. There are a few aircraft engines that actually have them built in but it is not very common. If you are looking to do drag racing I would recommned contacting Robin at Extreme RC Mods.... he could mod an engine for you that will do anything you need power wise.

Putting the engine in would take a little (a lot actually) modifications, but yes it would be possible...
That being said, airplane engines turn a lot (A LOT) less rpms than a land based engine.
They are setup for torque to turn a prop. Gearing would be one of the biggest obstacles to overcome to reach any decent speed.

Have a look at the rpm ratings of an air based engine and then compare it with a land based engine...

I'm sorry I was mistaken, the .70 conversion is for he tmaxx, but my question still remains on if you can use a airplane engine in your rc truck since airplanes engines go much higher in cc's. Also I just called my local hobbytown USA and asked about prices, and was told they no longer sell a platinum edition revo and haven't in awhile. Is this the case? Is my only option to buy a 3.3 and upgrade it or is there websites I can still buy a platinum edition new?

You CAN but it will not work for more than a couple minutes due to cooling issues. Not only that it will be really SLOW. An airplane engine tops out at around 15,000 RPM where a good .28 is turning over double that. Thunder tiger made a .70 that was a converted airplane engine for trucks but it is pointless. Bigger is not always better. A modded Picco P3 .28 will put out just about as much power as you can get out of a nitro with out anything fancy. See the post I put in your other thread. ERCM is your answer... ;-)

Hello, yes I did notice the rpm range on airplane engines where only somewhere around 16,000 as a pose to land engines around 32,000. So let's say I don't mind faring stuff up, is the biggest engine I can see is a picco .32. Is there anything bigger then this for a land based nitro? Besides going to something like a chainsaw engine. I am talking about something in the .50-.70 range.

Thanks. And I was pretty sure a modded picco .28 is what I would do I was just curious. What is ercm?

AE makes a .50 for the MGT but the Picco .28 or LRP .30 will STILL spank it's ass. The case size is also a lot bigger than the normal .21-.32 sized big block engines so it is going to be issues. HPI sells a 5.9 which is a .36 engine but they are not very good engines either. I am not sure if the Thuger Tiger .70 is even sold anymore. Oh yeah there is also the .46 from CEN which is a 7.7 but still.....only a meh...luke warm engine power wise.

Hey I read your reply and I already gathered that some airplane engines have Ben built in, I found a os engine that had one built in but it seems that it was discontinued and I can't find anything else. Do you happen to have a link to a engine that is still being built that has a supercharger built in, I am just curious I know the idea is more farfetched then practical.

Thanks guys, I know when the time comes I will be going with a modded picco .28. Just was wondering about the bigger impractical engines out of curiosity

I saw one on Ebay a while back....not sure of the brand though. Slips my mind. It was a Euro brand not found in the states. I will see if I can find it when i get home tonight. (Day time here) ERCM is an engine mod company, the guy's name is Robin, great dude and top notch personal customer service. Makes AMAZING engines and pipes.

Oh yes I have his paged saved as a book mark because from what I gathered already his pipes seem to be the way to go! And I also saved rbmods.com for the engine mods and was going to go with a ercm pipe for my picco .28

I have the big block side bleed pipe on my Savage with an LRP .30. I was thinking about having him Mod it for me as well. RB and AB Modds are good but the personal service your get from ERCM you can get no where else which is the reason I always go back.

What is the up rating on a stock trx 3.3 from what I can find on it it's about 1hp is that correct? And. Picco .28 is over 3? With modding could you get it close to 4hp? That's a 400% increase in hp!

What is a good rc car magazine to sign up for, geared toward rc trucks and racing and modding?

That is pretty close...the drag mod on a Picco is sick as hell. I am not sure a Revo could take the power even with steel gears. It will destroy a Savage tranny pretty quick too. Just crazy power.
