I just picked up one of THESE to play with. I'm not sure what Castles goal is with this but they have basically taken an MM2 and removed all of the power limiting features on it (limited quantities). Are they trying to test the no prep market?

Are you going to put this in a drag car or do you have other plans?
Do you have it in your hot little hands yet or is it on the truck still?
These seem like a good deal on a pretty powerful esc!
I'd like to hear how it does for you.

I just ordered it, so I don't have it yet. It's doing in my DR10. It's a great price on an 1/8 scale ESC as long as you don't burn it up accidentally. There's no thermal shutoff on this bad boy! lol. One thing that I don't like is that its not sensored. I would think that would be needed for smoother launches. That being said, my DR10 is mostly just for show so it won't see a lot of use. If I don't like the way it works in a no prep car, I'll just use it in something else. :)

I like thermal protect but its not a deal breaker for me imo. I ran for years with brushed esc's with no thermal protect, fans etc... I suppose it could be dangerous in a drag application though!
I think sensored launches would have to be quicker and smoother, right???
Sounds like a cool build AND you bought the right esc for it at a killer price!!!
NICE!!!

Not sure what is going on with them also. They have been offering them for quite a few years now. I remember when they first where offered (shortly after the MMX debute) and the main selling point was/is the retro V1.24 software on them. They say limited quantities, BUT when they go out of stock, in a couple of months they make some more. If you look at the reviews you can see they go back to 2017.

Reminds me of the vw and Cummins diesels tge epa got butt hurt on. So many people bought one under the advice to not take it to the dealer. They do and get the new update and now have a junk car.

Might get one for my pink drag slash build.

Here is a link to where Robert @Castle talks about the V1.24 and how it was original only on the Mamba Monster and how they installed it on Mamba Monster 2 as a limited run in 2016. He also mentions how the V1.77 version on the Mamba Monster X would feel the same. Link to RCtech forum posts

I would think that with all the new ESC's and the software updates since it's release I'm not sure how it is better. I think the ESC would make a great basher ESC.

I'm a big Castle fan. I'm surprised I wasn't aware that this has been a thing.

So the software in this esc is more or less better than a (regular?) sensored system for drag purposes?
The firmware itself its probably similar to what its always been for these ESCs, the v1.24 from what I understand just doesn't have the power limiting feautres built in to it. The firmware will lack features when compared to No Prep specific ESCs but if you compared it with other non-drag racing ESCs, its likely the same ole same ole. The limiting factor there IMO would be the lack of sensored operation, at least in a drag car.

I think the ESC would make a great basher ESC.
Thats why I bought it, I figured if nothing else i could put it in a basher and have a kickarse ESC for cheap.

I gotcha! I'd like to hear more about this esc esp in a bashing application. I don't have any drag cars at all.
Whenever I get to that build I will post about it, but I've got prolly a years worth of projects in front of that one lol
