If it is made from true Carbon Fiber sheets, It will be basically bulletproof on an R/C. My shop is located right next door to a guy that produces carbon Fiber parts for the Military. Believe me, I've tried to get him to make me some parts for my R/C, but the 12"x12" CF sheets he uses are $90 a piece, his cost... lol
The aftermarket CF parts we buy for our R/C's are not true CF. The're usually made from a thin fiberglass and layered with ultra thin sheets of CF. Thats why they tell you to seal the ends if you trim them at all, so as not to let it seperate. True CF after being sent through an autoclave (pressurized oven) comes out like a type of plastic. It is solid all the way through, & wont fray around the edges.
All this info was given to me by the owner himself, after showing some interest in the molding process. Truley impressive stuff...
ImBroken is right on the money there with cost ..
I've been running prototype parts with tru c.f. construction for about 5-6 months now, making sure they are up to spec for introduction into the 1/8th scale market,, and all I have to say is, no manufacturer is making authentic production pieces with you and I in mind,, this will change...and I hope to help out with this very soon...
Those bodies you see are just sheets of fiber with fiberglass squished into them with a vacuum former, flex them you'll see,, or for more examples of the shotty work manufacturers do to us, flex a losi or associated part,, weak huh? or better yet, take one of your broken pieces (since I'm sure you have them) and pry it apart,, youll see layers of fiberglass and tow in there sandwiched with 2 part epoxy,, seriously dissappointing to a purchaser when you thought you were getting better...
sorry about the rant, but it's the decieving people that claim something is carbon this, and stronger that,, that peeve me off for real, when all they have is a sheet of fiberglass with a topsheet look, trying to sell it to unsuspecting consumers...
Gilbequick , yes tru carbon fiber construction has an incredible strength to weight ratio,
just my 2 pennies and a rant,,
Lates!!
