i've changed tranny close ratio 2nd gear, forward only conv.i've tried,14cb/56sg,16/54,16/50,15/38 stock,15/40,15/36.and still either in 1st gear all the time or if i loosen the adj.it stays in 2nd gear.

and i have tunned it @ 1/12 incraments still no luck any sugg?

i have that same problem too everyone says its all in your tune...but i can't get mine tuned good enough i guess

Yeah you have to make sure the engine is tuned well, thats what I found anyway, & it needs to be warmed up properly to. Tune engine only when its warm & tune when tank is half full or just over for best results. Once warm only turn the adjustment screw for the gears with very small adjustments, probably less than 1/12 of a turn, I found it could be very touchy

i'll give it a try.but i have been getting up to temps.and i keep a good eye on my fuel level.once i get it right i will count the turns in and write that # down.

How about your slipper clutch, is that done up a bit or set to give a good bit of slippage, to much slippage probably won't allow enough power through to let it change gears, not quite sure but might be worth looking at. I always had mine done up with minimal slippage to let more power through down lower in the rev range.

i've got the slipper tight.it will turn a lil' with allen wrench put throgh the hole on the shaft.changed to the close ratio and it rained 2 day so may be sun i can try it.checked everything when i had the trans. apart.took checked the spring, ball and dog and the catch pins all looked good.but put the new close ratio 2nd gears in.

Did you happen to put your two speed pawl piece in backwards or something?

Changing the shift ratio wouldn't have any effect on when it shifts really. Spur/cb combo would change it. I thought the alternate ratios for the 2 speed only adjusted the second gear, not 1st gear, which means it wouldn't effect your shift point.

Ok so we all understand how the 2 speed transmission works in a Traxxas Tranny. It uses a spring and a hex screw to adjust it. The spring is compressed with the hex screw then by centrifical force then releases an arm to grab the second gear. If that tension spring is worn out it will not function properly.

I ran into this same problem on my brand new TMaxx transmission from the factory it compressed the spring to full first gear and the spring is shot because someone at the factory compressed it all the way down. I need to purchase a new spring for this tranmission. My original tranny which I rebuilt and reinstalled works properly. SO much for the new transmission. I went back to running my original 10 year old tranny after rebuilding it for the 3rd time.

Traxxas says this

i'll take a look at putting a new spring in it.and i doubled check to make sure i put the 2nd gear poop paw in right.but iwhen i had it apart i checked and it looked like the arm that shifts it to 2nd has some wear.

Never tighten it more than 1/2 a turn from where it is when new. For your 16/54 gearing you'll need to loosen it quite a bit.
