HPI refused to warranty this engine, my F4.1 that snapped a crankshaft during the 10-18-08 bash at Smokedoggs'.

Frankly, I'll never buy another HPI engine as long as I live. Same goes for any of their kits (I was considering buying a baja, but now... I'm not so sure. Maybe an FG....?). Their customer support is less than stellar in my eyes.

This engine had about 2 and a half gallons through it, barely broken in.

I'm steaming mad over this whole incident.

No, they pulled the old "your warranty is about to expire anyways" thing on me. I thought it was a rather tasteless and Integy-esque tactic.

When my 3.3 blew a connecting rod, it had 3 gallons on it and traxxas yes i know traxxas told me the average life of an engine is 2-4 gallons LMAO

my traxxas died within the first gal. They said it was my fault. I was still on the breakin process......

Big difference between "about to expire" and "expired". I don't care if the day you contacted them was the last day of the warranty they should honor it. I don't blame you for being pissed. I don't think HPI will ever get my hard-earned RC dollars. Sorry man. :argue:

Yeah... I'm currently looking long and hard at an Ofna-based engine.

I have no complaints about the Savage itself, aside from chewing spur gears... I really did consider selling it as a roller and getting an AE MGT for a while though, but then decided that it wasn't the trucks' fault the engine is junk.

Is that seriously what they told you? I mean, you either have warranty or you don't. There is no grey area. I'd be mad too.

Word for word, bro. The guy sounded like he was about to laugh in my ear when I asked for the carcass back. Like he started to laugh and then caught himself.

Oh, I failed to mention, they also tried to push their engine exchange program... Check their prices; I'm not even going to rant on that.

Agreed; they've seen my last dollar. I'm just gonna beat the Savage like a rented mule, and then when/if it shatters into a million pieces, part out what survives and then get an AE MGT. Associated has never done me wrong, ever.

Wow that sucks. I guess I won't be getting a savage after all. LOL

I would be calling corporate and filing a complaint. I have had todo that with HP before and I was instantly taken care of. I would not quit yet! If you want me to call them for you I will glady do it. hehe

If you need a motor I got a .28 you can use.

:whhooo: Details, brudda man, details (on the engine; what type, and what would ya want for it)? Savages themselves aren't bad; it's those garbage engines that're bundled with 'em. The F4.1 is... well, WAS... what came with the original Savage X. Now they all come with the F4.6/K4.6/K5.9, which apparently has a stronger crankshaft.

Sure--"We're gonna screw you, but now we want to sell you a new engine..."!
What asses!
Yeah.. I felt the same way.. It was more shock than rage at that point.... I had that "what - did - he - just - say - ??!?!" train of thought going through my mind at the time. He used the argument that "well, since we already have it here, I'd suggest doing the engine exchange program, for only $99 we can send you a new engine, or we can dispose of it, or we can send it back".

The only consolation is that they didn't have the stones to charge an examination fee. I would have return-to-sender'd it, followed by a not-so-nice call.

Much as it pains me to say this, because I own and love a HPI truck but a few model shops I know in the UK had stopped selling HPI parts and trucks because HPI have pissed them about like this. I've only had to contact HPIEurope once and I geto a very cold shoulder, just because I asked if they could recommend a vendor I could buy a Flux Warp system from. Makes me think maybe i won't be buying a HPI Nitro rig if I ever do.

My FATHER always take things like this to court. Because MOST people/companys don't want to go through all that they just give you what you diserve. We have had thing that followed throu and went to court but we ALWAYS(up to date anyways) win.:p::D:p::p::thumbup::dance:
NEVER GIVE UP :surrender

NEVER GIVE UP

I have to ask myself on this one tho, is a $99 engine worth the court costs/filing fees?

(I can hear Alpinehyperlite yelling now about a frivolous lawsuit....) To be honest, if it was say a 1:1 engine that threw a rod during the drive home from the dealer after a brand new engine, causing me to skid to a stop in front of an 18 wheeler carrying Rolex's Savage polishing and shelving supplies, then yeah... I'd be right there in good ol' Max G Arnolds' office (a local sue-happy "lawyer"), filling out papers to get the vehicles and all damaged items replaced at the manufactuers' expense.

But since it's a cheapo little POS that would likely cost far more to see any kind of satisfaction on than it's worth... Pass.

I'd much rather just vent, replace it with a better quality engine (even if it's used) and move on.

Give it a try! If they want to go to court then never mind. Most companys don't want a bad rap like that. You are never going to talk to them again right? So it dosen't matter.

Bring that bad boy over when you got some free time and we can get it running again. Just give me a call.

Sounds good - I'll shoot ya a call sometime sunday between football games (finally got a new surround sound for the 54" big screen in the front room!). Might even have to bring the camera and get a vid of the SC8.

Hey, can I have some stuff :hehe:?

Anyways, yeah. It is wrong and mean to not warranty your engine. Even if your warranty is about to expire, you still are under warranty, so why couldn't they exchange it? I think it's because they're too mindwash'd by their sales and they're thinking, "Oh man, our stuff is selling off the charts that we don't need to offer insurance because all of our stuff is good and will never break." or something like that.

Thats a bunch of BS sorry to here about your bad luck, but like you said put a new motor in it and beat it like you stole it, LOL and since AE is good to you maybe you should put a AE .28 motor in it or what ever motor comes in the MGT...
