ok i just got this backplate off jetmech and i didnt notice till i went ot turn it over that it would not make a complete cycle
look atthe difference in these 2 backplate and trell me if you think it will be possible to dremel the back plate out to clear the piston like the other does
the left 1 has the deeper indent right above the brass and as you can see the right hand 1 has a very shallow divit

Depending on how much it was... I'd try dremeling it. Just make sure you do a nice polish on it afterward to smooth out rough grinding marks. Otherwise it might make for a lot of extra turbulance inside the engine as it runs.
 
from what i noticed olds it is a notch for clearance to the piston sleeve ,that is what is hitting it now

Rick what did I do? That was an OS .18TM right? Let me know if I f'ed something up there, or are you modding something?

you did nothing the backplate is for a TM just like you said ,but i guess the pistons are different or something because the skirt hits the top of the back plate .
i assumed that a os .18 was the same all around ,lol
 
I'd do a easy pass on a bench grinder before freehanding w/ a dremel....I tore the cover off mine so I could do lil stuff like that......the dremel WILL give you uneven spots like Olds said.....don't know how much of a difference it makes but when every other part seems to have a smooth surface there must be a reason...
 
i was sitting here thinking about using my belt sander ,i do not have access to a bench grinder and i think with a bench grinder your wheel is round ,and with a belt sander they have a flat surface and will be able to give you a straighter surface area to work with from the beginning ,
what do you all think?
 
what i am doing is adding the ez-start back onto my tmaxx ,but if i am not mistaken all OS mills other then the tmaxx/revo direct drop in have 8mm pilot shafts i researched the 2 cvrx/tm and they both use the same crankcase ,connecting rod ,maybe the piston has a bevel on that side also i did not see just the piston ,i will have to look thru os's website and see ifi can get a view of the piston for the tm

but if you can hook me up then we can work something out ,i have the OS .18 cvrx btw

ok i guess i answered the question can it be done
YES it can
i just finished putting it together and it works and with a few minor mods it does work ,
1-first off you need and OS .18cvrx and a back plate from a OS .18tm for the maxx ,
2-carefully grind away the backplate to match the cvrx backplate .little divit at the top so it misses the piston skirt,polish also
3-carefully remove a small section of the heatsink just where the ez-start motor hits the lower 2 rows ,may take a few times of nibbleing to get it just right ..lol
4-install the heatsink and install the back plate ,install the header and then finally the ez-start and install it onto the maxx or revo and your good to go ,no more pulling ,you will still need a glo-starter thoe
 
Alright man, you had me worried there, thought I was f'ed up! Well, I am f'ed up but make sure I didn't f*** you up too! LOL
 
actually it wasn't supposed to work ,i emailed OS and asked them if it was possible and they told me more or less NO .lol
but persistence pays off in the end i guess
