Camera Questions

So this year on November 11th is my older brothers 21st birthday. I know, very cool date (11/11/11)! Haha, but anyways my parents want to buy him a new camera because hes very into photography. I know that DSLR cameras are the best there is right now, or so I think. Our budget for the camera is around $600. My parents dont wanna go over that too much. I would just like to get some brands that are good, and maybe some models too. I know Nikon and Canon are great cameras, heres one I was looking at:

What are some others you would suggest, or some features I should watch for that I definitely want in a camera. Thanks!

Check this place out. I got all this for about $800. The camera body and two lenses were factory demos/refurbs. And I got a Nikon case and cleaning kit with it.

The Canon you posted the link to is absolutely one of the best in that price range. I've been waiting for it to go on sale, but I just got a great deal on a Nikon.
Just remember, at that price posted, it doesn't come with the telephoto lens. That's available for 299. Check Sam's club for a deal with the lens included. Best price I've seen.
