My x 4.6 will arrive tomorrow. I've decided to try byrons fuel. My question is does the byrons 2000 have enough lube to break in with? The 2000 20% w/ 12% lube. The rtr is 20% w/16% lube. I'd like to break in with what I plan on running. But HPI recommends 20/16 for break in. Advice?

I've never used Byron's at all, but have almost always heard positive things about it. For break-in I'd say to follow HPI's recommendations for fuel (the Byron's RTR). After the first gallon, I'd then switch to the Byron's 2000.

Byron's gen 2 2000 (20% nitro 12% oil) is great fuel, but you may want 2500 (25% nitro) or 3000 (30% nitro 11% oil) for your 4.6. DO NOT get the "RTR" stuff lol.

Ehhh....so don't use rtr? Why? It meets the HPI requirements for break. Is there something wrong with it? I'm putting my faith in you guys here. I know nothing about nitro:\

It has 16% oil, which may sound attractive, but that's too much oil. Trust me on this, 11 or 12% oil will perform way better. It makes tuning easier, and believe it or not, makes engines run cooler! Wear is not an issue either, racers often use 8% oil, and their engines last long enough for them. I use 20% and 30% nitro mixed 50/50 in my stuff, and my engines are still in great shape after several gallons of use.

I would suggest the rtr version for break in and for getting used to tuning. If you want you could then switch to the 12% but before you do make sure its a blend of synthetic and castor. The castor gives you lean protection. I've ran the 16% for a gallon and some change with no issues in all of my nitro rigs.

I agree with 2revo1maxx 16% is way too much oil I run Byrons 20% with 12% oil. The engine will be set way rich for break in anyway so it will be getting plenty of lube. Plus with less oil content you won't get as much residue all over the the side of the truck.

It wont hurt either way. the extra oil is good during break in but 12% oil can be used if you choose. More oil is good for break in but then down side is if you start out with 16% oil and then switch to 12% is you will have to readjust your tune. So its completely up to you. either one will work. If it were me Id probably use the 12% throughout so I didnt have to change my tune but thats just my preference. Its just whatever you wanna do.
