I received my EB-4 S-3 about the same time Diver6127 did, and he has finished building his and I havent started of course. Here is what I have and what I need to get, I'm looking for advice on building, advice on parts and accessories and everyone's input. I plan on beginning the build this weekend.

WHAT I HAVE

EB4 Kit
Sirio Kanai Evo 2 Engine (I know Ratzo had a hard time with this, but Diver and I bought this at the same time, so I have it new, will try and use it)
MX-3S Radio

WHAT I NEED AND WHAT I WANT ADVICE ON

1. Servos, Steering and Throttle (right now leaning on the 645mg and 625mg because of cost concerns)
2. Pipe (leaning on the JP2 Pipe because of price and Diver's past experience with it)
3. What diff oils did I use? I plan on running 5/7/3. For the shocks I plan on running 40/50. I mostly run in short parking lot races, so no heavy hitting yet until I get full practice.
4. Shock towers? I'm told the TTR Upgrades develop stress fractures over time, I'm told there are better CNC machined and 5mm thick, or there are CF shock towers that are 4mm thick. Should I upgrade?

I'm reading all the posts before I build and will check the setup sheets from the TTR website. I know someone expressed a concern that the supplied flywheel might not work well with the Kanai Engine. Does it mate correctly with the spur gear?

PLEASE PROVIDE ANY GUIDANCE SO I CAN MAKE THIS A GREAT BUILD. THANKS!!

I'd run 1k in the rear diff and drop the shock oils to 40/35 or 40/40......that's just stock settings I Like on my buggy anyway....it's not a TT though so it could be way off....

Well guys I'm going to help you out. For some reason the TTR likes to run something around 5k5k5k believe it or not. What kind of track do you plan on racing on? Tight or wide open. I did some research on this buggy so I can give you some pro's setups if your interested.

Thanks VBganon for your help, a combination would be right-Tight tracks for competition races and wide open for parking lot speed races. Can you suggest a balance setup? You were going to buy one of these from me If I recall, I would love your suggestions! Also parts, anything you think is a major difference, minor run of the mill changes I'm not to interested.

Thanks Plaidfish, I will go with your advice.

I gambled recently on servos. I picked up a Blue Bird from Nitrohouse. Its got metal gears and a heatsink. I think it was rated [email protected]. Everyone said they are crap, but mine has been working like a champ. It was like a whopping 40 bucks. Pretty good deal I thought.

I think sometimes you don't get what you pay for. You get what you pay for, plus the additional cost of that brand name sticker on the front. Servos seem to be one of those situations.

The shock towers are fairly weak, and some people are changing to a flat chassis instead of the channel frame. It allows more flex, that is a prefrence thing. I'll get the setups up in a bit, I have to find them again. Won't be too long though.

i have upgraded to a KingHeadz front shock tower after I bent the stocker. no problems since... seems pretty strong for backyard bashing. I also upgraded to the TTR option aluminum FR0 suspension holder. it's the one behind the front bulkhead. I nailed something with a suspension arm and it pushed the hinge pin all the way through the stock piece.. breaking the FR0 part and the hinge pin bushing. I think this is a good upgrade if you see yourself bashing a bit.

How about these Kingheads front shock towers-where is a good place to get these? And the suspension holder, found a decent price somewhere? Let me know.

I think I got both parts from A Main hobbies (thanks for the link robmob). They carry darn near every part for the S3 which makes them very convienent to shop from. I don't really know about how competitive there pricing is but it's kinda rare to see so much TTR stuff in one place so I just grabbed 'em up.

I just put in a request for the info. I can't find it for some reason. If I don't have it tonight I'll have it up tomorrow.

Lessen, A-main hobbies prices are usually pretty good.

Lessen/Vbgagnon,

Take a look at the KingHeadz Shock towers versus the one I posted, which are CNC Machined from 7075-T6 Aircraft Grade Aluminum and Hard Anodized, do you think one would perform better under stress conditions over the other? Prices are virtually identical.

Any aftermarket shock tower will do you fine, I would stay away from carbon fiber though. Carbon tends to snap compared to amuminum will bend. The weight savings won't be that much anyway.

The 625 would be great for throttle/brake, but your going to want something fast with alot of tq for steering. I'd say something like the airtronics 94358, higher end hitec, and higher end jr servo's. I'd give you part numbers, but I don't know them.

Pipe JP-1 is low end and jp-2 is high end, they are great pipes for the price.

as far as servos go, I'm a JR 8611 fan all th eway...after futzing up a few servos I tried them and have yet to replace em.....they can take a beating...those airtronics ones VB mentioned look nice too...I never got around to trying those......I use the Futaba 9541 (?) for T/B...I like a very responsive T/B servo....it helps for correcting bad flight patterns :D.......you might want to try that set up VB posted on the diffs...I've seen a lot of people w/ this buggy on forums like that 5-5-5 diff set up....

Wow the 8611 retails for about 114 bucks, thats like 1/4 the price of the buggy itself! Any substitutes?

I found it to just be a beast....after spending between 50-80 bucks on a few different servos and roasting them all, I got the 8611 and have had ZERO issues since...it's definately worth it considering I'd be fryin a servo every 2 gallons or so before and now I think I'm on gallon 12 w/ that steering servo....it's paid for itself many times over by actually not blowing up from some of th ehits I've put that thing through......Sunday it took a few bad ones on a new track I was driving....kept going out of the banked turn and slamming a barrier wall at the end head on...did it like 4 times, I slightly bent the upper turnbuckle on the front upper arm......servo is perfect.....

that price is list too...PM bruce and see if he has em cheaper...I bet he does......I got mine for 100 bucks...still alot but it's better than 50 every 2 gallons right?
