Ok first off I have a Hyper 7 and running a RG-X and i have a problem. i have read around that 230-250 is a good running temp, well i have every thing ready and I went to run and I could only get to 200 and it was insane, I had great power very fast and i would go WOT and the tires would expand about a half inch and a good amount of smoke and if I leave the buggy ideling around for about 2min I will get a oil V from the exhuast.i had no smoking off the engine and no over heating issues But I can't belive that it could perform better.and I did the water test and it boiled off in like 10 sec.

But I was only running at 200, i would let the buggy idle for a few minutes and it would drop to around 197. do I have a problem. I feel that it is running lean but the temps dont show it. So I got thinking could my body be over cooling. and it is around 45deg outside

And could you tell me what you guys needle settings are. i just have a bad feeling that I am runninng to lean.

Thanks

If you feel it's running good and doesn't seem to be to rich or lean, then it's good. You might still be able to lean it out to get more power. The RG is known to run ok even when it's not tuned perfectly.
Temp's are a guide line and help assist in tuning but isn't the first way to tune. Most $30 temp guns are that accurate and should be a guide line.
My RG makes it's best power around 275F and I have run 5 gallons of 30% through it and it's still running strong.

I can't see it being that cool and idling for 2 mins.....if it really does that you may have your LSN too lean....the overall temps are nice but you'd be running lean on the bottom......but like J said if it makes good power and it's around 200 and under 265-275, you're good to go....

BTW, NEVER let someone over the internet in a totally different climate tell you to "set" your needles like theirs.....every mill will NEED to be tuned to your climate...even if the guy right next to you has the same engine, bought on the same day and broken in identical and all the planets are alligned in your inner chi is glowing around you and you won the lottery for 10 milllion and a group of strippers for your pit crew.....you still need to tune your engine.......stock settings are meant to get you started and you'll need to tune from there......

Plaid, you like to run the RG, right? Does it really like 275F? That sounds like a TRX 2.5r temp! My V-Spec likes about 250-260 tops on a mild warm to warm day (70-80). And that's after a lot of straightaway running.

I had 2 out of 6 that liked running around 265ish....I could get more power still but I was a lil skeered to lean it out more....they still had good smoke and power band never got choppy.......one guy runs his almost 300 every race....it amazes me how hard this guy beats it too.....I think he just runs it at the races though...I can't see any mill (other than the old fantom .18) running like that for extended periods though......most of mine settled in around 230-240 after the 1 gallon pinch....

Yeah, the RB 323 for the Revo likes 240-250 max with a hot plug (MC-59) I guess some .21 and bigger still like to run hot. V-Spec is not one of them. The Hyper 7 8 port is, running about 265-270 most days for top power.

revo you have a hyper 7 8 port???
Have you swapped the carb yet??
I might have an OS carb for ya on that if you're interested...PM if ya are...

Yes, I do. It came with the PCR I have. So, what is the trick with the OS carb? (not trying to derail this thread, but this, I am sure, is useful all around info)

The os carb makes it much easier to tune, but I have read in a few cases that it robs power. How true it is I cannot answer that.

RR I think I got the tires yesterday, haven't been home since yesterday morning, so I'll let you know for sure later.

yep what he said.....I've only seen person one that did it to their Hyper 8 port mill....I've heard about the HP but from what I saw the thing almost spun the tires off the buggy anyway so if it did rob any it was only noticeable to super techno weenies w/ dyno built into their heads......I was holding onto on of these carbs incase I got a deal on another hyper mill to try out myself...I hated the one I had, but it was one of the first mills I got so I'm sure alot of it was ID-10-T error.....

Aw, come on Plaid...lean her out...LOL j/k.. I've got my RG over 290 and richened it up by 1 hour and it was a rocket. This thing still has good pinch and runs good still to this day! My buddy had his RG near 250-260 and it seems ok there too. My Hyper 8 port like to run hot too, before and after carb issues. My Nova Rossi like 250 right now so every motor is different, even if it's the same brand.

i know that the needles will be diferent. I just wanted to see.

and I dont see how my LSN is lean, I have not touched it. it is still stock settings.

if the weather has changed, usually the stock settings (or any settings) will need to change as well...that was the only thing I was trying to point out....not bashing...I see too many people ask for needle settings from other people thinking they will go to theirs and set it and forget it....just wanted to make sure you realized that.....and I didn't pay close attention to who was posting, sorry....

you might want to check your temp gun the little eye where it gets its reading from can get dusty just take a q tip and clean it then recheck your temp i bet that was your prob with a real cool reading
