I am considering an OS VZB 21 for my Swift and would like to get the impressions from owners/drivers of this engine. Also any comparisons with other engines would be appreciated.

Thanx in advance,
Dj

Just curious... how much did you find it for? Sorry for not being able to post any input about your actual question... just curious as to why you are thinking about that one.

WAFAST, I read the issue of RCCA where they placed the engine in their review of the Most Powerful Engines by class article. The OS was considered tops for a .21. (I believe the article was in the May Issue) Also, my LHS recommended the engine as well.

BTW the price I am getting it for is 240.

Isn't the vzb the one that gets a really short life out of the P/S, less than 2 gallons before pinch and compression are gone? I can't remember if it's that one or the RZ.

If it is, I've read it's a really strong engine for the short life it gives.

I have read ona few forums some poeple only getting 2 gallons out of the VZ B and I read that some got 6 to 7 gallons also..But i read more poeple having go after 2 gallons...I was aware of this when I ordered my engine but I can only hope that I get a good one...

Myself and two other people I run with have the VZB. I run 20%, and they run 30%. I'm on about two gallons with no problems, and the one of the other two that gets of the shelf on a somewhat regular basis is on about thee gallons (I think) with no problems. If you get it break it in with 20% heat cycling4-6 tanks, and driving easy 4-6 tanks slowly getting deeper it the thottle. This is what I did, and it too 1/2-3/4 of a gallon to break in. I run O'Donnell as well as the other guys running 30. If it doesn't have enough power for you, put the extra head shim in, and use 30% after that first gallon, and it will.

A few off us in australia have been running the vzb for a while,25% fuel 18% oil just like hand book tells u.
We have had no problems to date, the main point with o.s engines is oil content.
Most other engine manufacture say to use 12-14% oil,a few guys have done this and there engine life was decreased.

Most off us have ran about 8 litres of fuel know and still going strong.

8 litres = over 2 gallons, so I guess that is alright, but with nova/rb's you can generally run harder and lesser oil contents, and still have much longer life.

I used to run an RZ and was quite happy - had no problems except that it was starting to loose compression after the 3-4 gallon mark... the newer VZ's got a new machined/billet piston that was wearing too quickly, and wasn't doing great after being pinched - and the complaints weren't isolated to a few engines, it was a common problem - so I decided no more OS, made the switch to nova/rb and haven't looked back.

For those that haven't already bought a VZB- i'd look elsewhere - for a similar novarossi, there is the new BS21SB which would work really nice.

As well as the other usual options - P5, WS7II etc.

I don't see why you would pay the same amount for the OS that would last a lot less longer.... I think you'd get more from your money going the italian route.

I know that my next motor will definitely be the WS7II... I have read a lot about engines lately and this one seems to take the cake... I've never heard any bad things about the WS7II ever, only positive, and it seems to be a very popular motor among winners at races of all levels, so why not learn from others.

I like my VZB, but I,ve been thinking the same thing. Wouldn't a WS7II look nice on one of those new MBX-5 Prospects. The only problem is as much as I like my VZB, OS is coming out with that VZB V-Spec. Dicisions, dicisions...

The V-spec will be the same in terms of materials, internal quality, and therefore durability. Unless they've changed their piston material again, which would be nice.

IMO the OS do work VERY nicely for racing only, don't think i've seen a nova/rb that quite matches the pristinely smooth powerband of the simple OS 3-port motors, but the problem is you will replace them at smaller intervals. The Italian engines last longer.

So I guess it depends on what you're looking for. I'm poor so I think i'll be sticking with nova based stuff for some time to come.
