What do the KV ratings mean on brushless motors. The MMM i have in my e-revo is a 2200KV and i just watched a video of a Merv with a 9000KV Castle Creations MM on it. . .and i was wondering what the ratings mean. Is it the higher kv the better or is it the lower the kv the better, i am stumped and i just wanna know

The KV rating states how fast the unloaded motor will spin with one volt.

The MMM uses lower KV motors so that there can be more voltage, (more power) to push the larger rigs. so say you have a:
2200kv MMM, with a 6S lipo (22.2v) (Max recommended power source) , so 2200 x 22.2= 48,840rpm.

9,000kv Micro Mamba with a 2s lipo (7.2) (Max recommended power souce), so 9,000kv x 7.2 = 64,800rpm.

Now that is one extreme to another. That is an average KV rating for the MMM and the highest KV rating for the Micro Mamba. The average KV Micro Mamba is 5,700kv.

5,700kv on 2s (7.2v) (Highest recommended) 5,700kv x 7.2v = 41,040 RPM

Another to look at it is:

Low kV=High Torque
High kV=High Horsepower

At least that was how it was explained to me.

Thank you guys that makes perfect sense to me now. . .really appreciate all the info.:first_place::first_place::first_place:
