So I have a couple brushed motors hanging around. Like this 1...

I havnt seen folks rewind brushed motors since around 2005-2006...

I still do it, but commonly people newer lack the skill, knowledge or effort.

I used to build my own hot rod motors back in the day vs always buying them. Definitely a super fun and rewarding skill to have 😎

I started rewinding tiny 2 pole slot car motors way back. Sometimes I get the itch to keep those old skills in practice. I put this in the sandmaster 2.0. Brought it out in the dark for a minute. Feels nice and smooth. Needs some gearing that favors the bottom end a bit more. Looks like it should be a good time!
 
Now that the light has come back I should use a different battery and retest. I grabbed the first thing with enough v to run a quick test.. 20c is probably a bit light
 
New testing at full charge with a 5000mah 100c battery. Still think I would like to drop the pinion maybe 2t for a little better launch, but it's gonna be good! New top speed.

This is not the stock sr27 motor. It's a generic silver can....that we now know was a 60t 3 pole motor with .006 wire...

The fun colors your wire comes in is an insulating enamel coating....strip it off at any contact point if you want it to work.
 
Swapping armature bushings for bearings.. We used to cut slots in the brushes back then for less friction too 😎. The good ol days 🙂
We used to do that with slot car motor brushes. There was a guy with a 24th scale rail dragster that he had around $400 wrapped up in. It was a work of art, and an absolute blur on the track. The motors most of us ran were little 2 pole Wasp motors if I remember correctly.

This whole thread reminds me of Electricity shop class. 6 whole weeks to wind a coil, bend some metal, attach it to a board, and see who could make the loudest buzzer in class. My buddy Chad, that meticulous SOB, barely beat me by just a smidge in volume, but mine sounded a lot cooler, and had a helluva spark. I think I almost made a decent welder out of it.

Think I got something really good with this 1. When I originally installed this motor I had to go from a 9 to a 6t pinion to get a better launch. This sounds great on the bench and is back up to an 8. We might have a winner!!
 
While it has the same number of turns the smaller diameter is approx. 27% less wire. Making it behave like a 17.5t if wound with the original wire
So I don't remember much about electronics class. But I know the wire we used to make the buzzers was super thin stuff. So what is the benefit of going with the smaller wire on your motor? Less weight? Would that not dik with the torque, the magnetic field, etc?
