I have a brand new savage xl 5/9 and havnt even ran a tank of gas through it and now the car dosnt move but the motor revs up and I here pieses rattleing around at bottom of the trans

do you pull one side of the frame off to get to it

I believe you should only have to pull the two screws in the TVPs that go into the top of the transmission. If you are using the stock roll bar, it would be the screws that hold that on.

I don't have stock TVPs on either one of mine, but I'm looking at 2 on top and two on the bottom. If I remember correctly, you'll also have to disconnect one plate from the rear assembly so you can spread them enough to lift out the trans.

Less than ONE tank? I'm guessing you really ran it hard without a break in.

On the newer transmissions, you can just pull the top, at least to inspect and remove the input shaft.

Four screws for the roll bar, and I believe three pointing down into the top of the case.

Now let's hope for motox526's sake, the XL used the newer style transmission.

three screws on the top, then the top comes off the transmission, then pick out the gears, be careful not loose the bearings, and thats the transmission.

He is not getting a break with broken equipment, but Alien is correct the X does come with the easy access tranny and diffs.

If this XL is new you should have the manual with parts breakdown. If not got to http://www.hpiracing.com/kitinfo/104246/ and click n the manual link in the middle of the page.

Also if it is new should be under warranty, call HPI!:)

broken trans

you would think with that savage being new hpi would warranty the trans??

I just finished pulling it apart the trans is like a rattle box pulled it apart and theres a broken gear I broke it in acorring to directions and really havnt ran it hard

The gear may have been cracked or other wise damaged during installation or manufacturing. Doesn't sound like your fault, unless you ran it into a wall! :hehe:
