I'm started breaking in my STS 28 today. (20% nitro) I'm doing the recommended heat cycle method according to the manufactureres instructions.,,,first 6-8 tanks idle for 2 min..shut down..cool off....watching my temps.

I'm on the second phase which involves running the next several tanks 40-70% throttle..blipping the trigger.

When i drive about 10 ft it dies..(about 40% throttle) I didnt want to have to touch the needles this early but looks like i need to in order for it to stay running.

When it dies theres NO change in sound. Its gooooooooo and then boom!! :hammer: ..someone flips the kill switch!!!! What would you do? Lean it???

Once it gets warm it starts fine.....glow plug is good....fuel is fresh.

I had that same problem when breaking in my savage 25. I just leaned the hsn and it got better. When u do gun it, does it have a lot of smoke coming out? The break-in settings are very rich and u might need to lean it a little.

I agree, its not to early to start turning needles.

You already have 8 tanks through it.....

I would lean the HSN out and work from there.

A temp gun helps.

yeah lean the hsn and leave the glo igniter on it and drive it for a minute. my ride does the same when i crank her up and take off the igniter and she goes poof.
1.set the trim a little high and let it take off on its own with the igniter on
2.once she starts going give her some throttle for about a minute.
3.turn her around bring her back to you try not to hit the break cause she may die until the trim is set back to 0.
4.set the trim to 0 and pull the igniter off..

I'm sorry, it has only ran for 6-8 times at 2 min intervals...(12-16 min run time) I dont know why i typed 6-8 tanks...Still ok to lean a bit?

I'm still on the first tank :hammer:

Well, to me, it sounds like it is lean because usually that's what happens, it'll just quick without warning. But that's probably not the case since it's break-in.

I'd imagine you're just running SUPER rich....which can have the same effect. Start leaning the HSN like an 1/8 turn at a time. Make sure you have plenty of smoke coming out the exhaust.

During break-in, I try to keep the engine as rich as possible. Usually it'll have kind of a gurgling sound and tons of blue smoke out the exhaust.
