I have a tlr 22 2.0 with a 4000kv trackstar turnigy motor and esc with a dx3c radio.

My question is why does it seem to have no brakes at low/mid speed, but then when I hit like 25-30 mph then brake they lock up perfectly?

Also I was at a track and couldn't brake in mid air to bring the nose down at all.
Is this motor simply bad at braking? I have no idea how to adjust braking.

Thanks:)

You will need a field programming card to adjust the ESC if it wasn't originally set up properly.

Turnigy's default settings are low across the board; motor timing, punch, brakes.....all very soft from factory.

As Hamz said, you'll need the program card to adjust it. I know some of the Turnigy ESCs could be calibrated with throttle like Associated, Dynamite, etc, but I think most of them now require the card.

Having said that, I have been severely disappointed in Turnigy ESCs. Even with the program card and turning everything up, the punch still sucked, and most of the time I was unable to correct either direction in the air. Swapped out to a Hobbywing ESC, problem solved. That's Hobbywing, with a W, not Hobbyking. The later is no better than Turnigy (really the same company). Before you spend $10 or $15 on a program card, you might consider just buying a HW ESC and unloading that Turnigy for whatever you can.

If you're just running on 2S with a 540 can and not gearing it really aggressively, the HW 60A SL will do just fine. Can be had for $51 shipped with program card. I have personally run this, and it's a good little ESC. I just wouldn't try to run really aggressive gearing or push it hard on 3S, as most of the smaller ESCs (<90A) can't take that for long. I have run the 60A on 3S with a 3,300 KV motor, but it warmed up quickly.
