Has anyone ever tried this stuff? Any comments regarding this fuel?
I tried to buy it at a hobby center where they say they do have it (online), and one of the sales person said if I used it would cause to motor to have a shorter stroke and would not allow it to reach it's full power stroke... something like that? (due to the low Nitro content)
 
blue thunder is an ok fuel, I've used it alot befor. it doesn't have lower nitro content. (20%) but it does have higher oil content which will make your motor not produce as much power. imo there are better fuels out, i personaly use white lighting 20% it has the same nitro content so you dont have to reshim your head, but less oil, so it burns cleaner and better. I've seen better idle, top end, low end, easy starting, and all around better performance when i switched to white lightning. just dont forget the ARO!! less oil in fuel=less oil left in engine after a run.
 
What % nitro? Sounds to me like this guy is blowing smoke up your.....you know what I mean. If you order it online it will cost big $ to send it to you. I would look to find another hobby shop. I don't know how far south you are, but NitroHouse is in Irvine and Ultimate Hobbies is in Orange. Both are excellent shops and have a very kwnoledgable staff.
 
I'm wondering, are you referring to a fuel from Blue Thunder that is labeled or intended for "first runs" or is this just some marketing ploy? I use Blue Thunder 20% in all my rigs and have since I've gotten them. I haven't used another type of fuel, so I can't really compare it, but I've never seen Blue Thunder fuel labeled specifically for first runs. I just checked the bottle and mine says Sport Formula. Personally, I wouldn't out much stock into a fuel that advertises itself has being better for first runs or break-ins, because I think that's bogus (or clever marketing). The key is to make sure that the fuel you use contains enough lubricant and nitro and is designed for cars (i.e. don't run aircraft fuel in your car and vice versa).

I've found that guys think of fuel a lot like they think of women. Guys prefer a fuel for a variety of reasons and will argue them until they pass out, no matter how ugly she may really be!
 
OK thanks, I wasn't able to find any info regarding this product except a brief description about it having some kind of additive which would seal pores, maybe like those synthetic oils for cars. I thought after using it, of course I would then start using the 20% sport stuff. Well, I'll keep looking for more info.
 
Honestly man, my gut tells me you'd be throwing money out the window with that stuff. Seals pores? What pores? Save your dough and go with the 20%, just follow the engine manufacturers directions for engine break-in and run it rich until the mill is good and settled. I mean, regular BD 20% is like $20.00 a gallon around here, I'm not sure I'd want to spend another $20.00 or so for a gallon of fuel I may not use all of, but that's just my opinion. There's a whole lot of smarter guys on these boards than me!

He's talking about their version of "break-in" fuel in case no one picked that up. No it's not necessary, and there's a teeny bit of truth to what the LHS guy is saying about the "short stroke", although that's not completely accurate.

When you break in an engine with a given percentage of nitro, the sleeve and piston are conditioned to that percentage through a process called hysteresis. This is also why you need to re-break in an engine if you change percentage.

My LHS dude said it's bull **** and that he doesn't carry any of that stuff. He just said the run really rich as does everyone for the first run.

I ran some of beason's BT at his house and it ran fine for me. It ran better than trinity. i was very surprised.
 
OK... I won't use it. Too bad none of you live in San Diego, I'd invite you to the Denver / Charger game.... I just won 2 tixs at Albertson's... bummer, nose bleed seats right next to the score board...
 
I used to run Blue Thunder 20%... It was OK. Then I went to Trinity Monster Horsepower, and that was a BIG improvement. I ran that for about a year, now I only run o'donnell. I made the switch from 20% to 30% and i am just AMAZED at the power/speed gain. Its incredible. I'd try a different fuel. Monster Horsepower seems to be the easiest/good fuel to use that I've tried.
 
Does your lhs sell Rocket Science? wannarunem, and I both use it and it's a very good fuel.

As far as break in fuels go, I'd say buy one fuel and stick with it.

You'll get votes on who prefers what, but it's really up to you and if you're happy with it or not.

Personally, I don't think blue thunder is a good fuel for an experienced hobbyist. It has an agent in it that will cause it to bog when the engine gets overheated, and I think because of that, the potency of the fuel suffers.

I used it, and had nothing but problems with it. That could have had something to do with my being new to the hobby, but it never ran good for me.

Another thing, get something you wont mistake for washer fluid....
