Better engine?

So my first truck was a used T-maxx that sat years. I cleaned it all up and got it running. While cleaning all the gunk out of the engine I was able to slide the piston sleve out. My buddy just got the same truck to strip and turn to electric. I tried telling him just to buy one it's easier but thank god he didn't. I got every thing fuel oriented. The truck was only run a few times and is mint. Same problem though,it sat with fuel. So last night I cleaned out the engine and it seems in better shape then mine as far as the piston sleeve and piston. The sleeve stays in no matter what. I dont know how the first engine was broken in but this one was claimed to have been done professionally. I know you use heat to form the sleeve to the engine. So my question is would the newer engine be better?

The condition of the engine really has very little to do with clearances between the sleeve and crankcase compared to clearance between the piston and sleeve. It should be an interference fit at the top, between the sleeve and piston.

Since I started in this hobby all I do is read forums. One of the threads I read said you would need heat to remove a piston sleeve. My first engine the sleeve slides right out. The second the sleeve wont budge. So I thought maybe the first engine wasn't broke in properly.

So I tried putting in the new engine but had no luck. I couldn't get it started. It flooded like crazy even with out priming. I checked my needle settings and all was good. So I put my old carb back on. Wasn't flooding but still no luck. I also tried putting the old clutch on but still nothing. Any suggestions?

you should be able to get the sleeve out no matter what you just gotta be careful and push from the bottom... some are just alittle stuck but as soon as you get it started it will come out.... what are you using for fuel???? and are you using the e-z start on it????? and is it a new glow plug????

I finally got it. Another noob mistake. I set my high speed needle before I put it in the carb. Like an idiot I screwed it in using the plastic around the high speed needle. No gas was getting in. Fried a glow plug so after a new glow plug and a resetting of the high speed needle it starts right up. I tried pushing up on the piston sleeve in this engine and it wouldn't budge. The old engine ran good at times but the sleeve would pop right out. Well either way the new engine has seen alot less run time so well see how it runs tomorrow. I use byrons gen 2 20% and ez-start.
