Hey guys

I don't like how hot my 9.5V get with the body on... Is there anything I can do to get the head a bit more air without scooping up debris?

So far my only ideas are to drill many small holes in the windshield or to cut a large hole and cover it with some screen/wire mesh...

Any good tips?

cut the windshield. You should have it cut already to get to the fuel tank.

I have seen othere members rides with the windshield having holes drilled through them but not the whole window cut out. I think if you cut it out completely then it more prone getting "crap " getting under the body.

The side window is cut out from the factory to access the tank, even though it'd be a PITA to get to it through their hole. I just take off the body to get to the tank. I might hog that hole out a bit more to improve both situations, but that won't really catch too much air, just crap from the front tires...

If you choose to drill holes instead of cutting a big hole, it has 2 benifits. Drilling smaller holes doesn't let huge chunks of crap in and it doesn't weaken the body as much as one big hole.

Oh yeah, and without either, you won't get much air flow.

what is the exact website where i could get one. do you know if i weakens the body? you obviously have to make a cut out or something. am i right?

Yes, you will have to cut a hole in the body but you're replacing it with an aluminum part, two pieces. There will be the top piece that's louvered and there is an additional piece on the underside.
Screws included as well. Check them out at

the ram tec air hood is the best thing you can do short of cutting holes in your body.go to the ram tec fourm and check out my buggy.it has droped my temps down 10 deg.that was on a really hard run

I have to agree with cbreaker.... You might be running too lean. These little motors are liquid cooled. Air only helps........ Richen her up.....

She's running around 180*F without the body, and when the body goes on, it's at about 210*F... This is still fairly cool, cause shes still pretty new. Ambient temps are 40-60*F. Putting the body on has nothing to do with mixture ;), but thanks for the try. I drilled some 3/8" holes for now, unfortunately one of my rims broke while on the test session.

well 210 is not a problem at all.. these motors run best between 220 and 230.. so i wouldnt worry bout temp..

Sometimes it does get hotter though... And it shouldn't at all just because the body is on

Why not? Most of the cooling head is covered by the body. Mine, and three of my friends all have slightly hotter engines when the cover is on. Mine runs about 10-20 degrees hotter depending on whether or not it's been idling or driven. It's still well within safe temps, and the engine is tuned nicely.

I don't see how this could not be the case unless you cut the body all up or do other mods to help with the air flow.

Buggies are designed to be run with the cover on, so it's just part of it. Since you refuse to adjust the fuel mixture, then you'll just have to run it without the cover on and let it get all sorts of dirty.

I adjust the mixture almost everytime I run it... at least this time of the year (temps and air density are changing all day long). I like to tune by peformance rather than temp, but check the temps often to make sure she's not too hot. I've drilled a few holes and hopefully it'll help some, guess it's just going to be a compromise between dirt and cold air....

yeah.. some holes will help.. but you wont notice a big difference.. if it heats up while its idling.. you may be to lean on the bottom.. check into that.. also.. you may consider a aftermarket head for it..
