Hey guys I'm looking to buy a good 1/10 short course brushless rtr truck to start out racing with, which one do you guys suggest for around $350-$400 max? Oh yeah and as far as 2wd or 4wd I'm not sure of the positves and negatives between the two accept that 2wd requires more skill on the track, so I guess 4wd would be better to start out with right? Thanks for your advice guys.

Ok, here's my opinion.

Are you racing or not? If so, have you raced before? If not, I suggest starting in a stock class. I run a Losi XXX-SCT, and I like it. However, there's others out there, and I think all are equally good, it's all about setups and skill.

Generally, you're looking at three classes for most tracks, Stock, Open (or Mod), and 4wd. In my experience, at least around here, the 4wd guys are a bunch of hacks. Put as much power as you can into your truck and slam your way around the track. Mods, or open, probably the best class. These guys seem to be a little more about control. Stocks, basically a bunch of kids, or rookies. I lasted all of three weeks in stock because I was too competitive to keep getting slammed into walls by 10yr old kids.

In any case, you can get any 2wd SCT for under about $250. If you go stock, check your local track rules. Here, at one track you can run only stock motors and tires, but they can be stock from any RTR truck, and at another track, you can run same rule for motors, but open tires. Best thing you can do is start stock, work on your gearing and setups, then bump up to the next class.

Yes I'm definitely gonna race and have rc experience just not on the track but I'm confident I can be just as good as some of the guys I've seen out there. Funny you said that about the 4wd guys, thats exactly what it looked like tonight at the track..bunch of speed but also slamming into everything trying to reach the finish, exciting to watch but not sure i would want my truck in that mess. Thanks for your advice.

I would go with the Kyosho Ultima SC, it is too great like the SC10, but that is for experienced drivers. Alot of people didnt like the Kyosho SC when it first came out due to lack of spear parts. Whatever you do just dont go with Team Losi, those things a POS, they break all the time, dont see them much on the track anymore. Anways see you out on the track. You better study up some more son...:hehe:

I was checkin out SCT a couple days ago and read reviews along with a video on the Venom Gambler, not sure of other peoples opinions on them but they look rigid & fun

Maybe you should be doing the research, SON. I have the Losi XXX-SCT, and right now it's one of the most common on the track, also one of the best.

I've heard nothing BUT good on the XXX platforms & can't wait to see the new XXX buggy release, even though I have no hands on with SCT I would love a Losi or Traxxas

Ooh! I saw the new TLR Twenty-Two at the track yesterday! That thing is sweet!

Here's a quick vid of the Twenty-Two 1/10 buggy

Well out of the three trucks I'm considering (Losi XXX/HPI Blitz/Associated SC10) I think I have to go with the Associated SC10...I want to to race, and thats the truck to do it with...you can't deny 6 championships and all the experience. Maybe It's because I still have my vintage RC10T but I just feel most comfortable with this truck, the Losi XXX and HPI Blitz are also good trucks and have their positives and negatives but looks like associated for me...

Without telling you what to buy, or what not to buy, championships are not won by type. It's all about driving skill and setups. I'm involved in 1:1 racing, and I guarantee that the type of vehicle does not make the winner.

True that a driver wins a championship not neccessarily the car, however a driver racing a great car/truck setup to start with only increases his odds for success...so while a great driver in a lesser quality truck will spank another with less experience in a greater truck, I can only base my decision to buy a certain type on experience and success of that truck maker. In other words Tiger Woods would spank me all day with Wal Mart irons even if I was playing with $5000 clubs, but why not get proven quality irons if you can ya know? What was the deciding factor for you in your purchase of your Losi XXX? Just curious, if you have any suggestions on a truck please feel free to let me know, any information just helps me learn this hobby, thanks.

I was torn between a SC10 and XXX-SCT. One, I'm a Losi fan, started with Losi, probably going to end with Losi. That does not mean I won't try others. Also, the XXX platform is tried and true. The truck is durable, I've done some seriously horrible driving, and I can't seem to break it. (I was talking with a possible new sct owner at the lhs the other day, and even the lhs employee said the SC10 is more fragile, he's been racing for years.)

I also did an intense amount of reading, and the XXX-SCT was right for me. Out of the box, it was a great truck. Last weekend, I watched a guy buy one, take it out of the box, race one heat, and the B-main, and he won the B-main, never raced before, never drove a sct before. Didn't change anything.

Now I'm not going to say any other truck is bad, but that was my decision. In my opinion, they are all great trucks, as long as you are still having fun.

But please, do some research before you buy one. Going in and asking which one you should buy is going to get you a ton of different responses, all based on personal preference.

thats how i feel, if you get a truck with four wheels that roll, that give you a chance in a race and also havin fun what else is there??? Way to many variables, like brushed to brushless, crashablilty, spare parts, what is needed to complete your truck, too much poop and everyone has there own opinion, and I know nothing about rc trucks, hopefully ill pick up on it......

Soon to be a sc10 owner if that makes a diff seems by me its a toss up between the blitz and sc10 seen a couple moded 2 wheel slashes also

I'm happy with my sc10 249.99 for the brushless version i can't complain
i still haven't broke a single part on it other than the tires wearin out the 1st week:D
