I agree. It does not NEED to be a kit to win.
Even if you buy a used kit, it comes RTR to the new owner.
Its the $ involved to bolt on upgrades etc that is just staggering sometimes.
Kyoshos upgrades are all good quality but the prices are crazy too.
Unless its a bad design and the buggy breaks all the time, esp for noobs to start racing, I don't feel like its the buggy that will be keeping them from winning.
Learning how to race is its own thing. As is tuning, repairing and ultimately learning how to get your car around a narrow track without slamming into a wall or other drivers at every turn.
Figuring out how all this stuff works, hiw to not piss off the guy beside you after you've wiped each other out all night, not intentionally,
LEARNING HOW TO LOOSE A RACE GRACEFULLY is a big one for a lot of ppl too.

I think its unrealistic for a new driver to hope to win without experience. The car they own is almost irrelevant.
Knowing how the car is assembled and how it works is an advantage that does make a difference fixing a break when you're trackside.
Its the difference between a place and a DNF sometimes.
You WILL learn your new race buggy. If its because you tore it all down for inspection or if its because you've torn all 4 corners of the suspension off the car due to crashes or whatever... you're going to learn it eventually.
@Littlemotor hasn't been around much lately but that guy SWORE by Tekno as do so many other ppl here...
I would be looking at Tekno HARD if I were looking for a full on nitro race buggy.
I have little faith in Associated's parts dept.
Losi is another 'race team' in distress.
I am watching Kyosho.
The Ultima they just released makes me feel like they are still listening and responding to their customers. It has a ton of 'necessary upgrades'.
I think a 4x4 won't be far away. Hopefully nitro will follow soon.
Kyosho was a FORCE in nitro for years. I think they can do it again if they choose to. Time will tell.
I would STRONGLY urge you to look at ALL of
@Littlemotor 's build threads.
For Tekno info directly as well as how to build an RC correctly, his builds are FULL of good info.
