Hi Guys,
First time poster here. I'm not new to RC, but have been out for 20 years.

I picked up a Traxxas Sledge, also their Rally Car, along with a Tyon Grom. All good stuff. My boy has a Kyosho Fazer mk2. Fun and fast but the ground clearance is terrible. Any little twig or pebble, it seems to bottom on on.

I want to make a little ripper that is maybe the best of both worlds. I try not to be cheap, but I was thinking about getting a standard Typhon Grom (brushed), and putting a different motor and ECS, street tires, maybe shocks, metal diffs. Trying to run the Fazer on the street/ parking lots with that.

Anyone else have a cost effective way to beat the Fazer and keep some ground clearance without breaking the bank?

Thanks in advance!

Taller tires and regearing should get you some clearance and still keep speed up.
You'll def want to watch your esc and motor temps until its dialed in! 👍

Are you stuck on the smaller scale RCs? Must it be 4wd? 1/10 scale 2wd stadium trucks out of the question? When it comes to tackling terrain, "lots of ways to skin a cat "as they say. Build your shopping cart around what body style your kid likes.

Which Fazer do you have? There is a rally version.

He’s got the Mercedes , I haven’t done a speed test but it handled pretty darn good.

See what's the difference between this and the rally version. Some meatier tires and a bit of preload on the shocks could do the trick.

Yeah, I was just curious if y'all had the rally version to start with and the ride height wasn't enough. That settles it. A new ride it shall be for shopping cart. I would consider 1/8 scale buggies to be some of the best do-it-all RCs out there. From speed run queens to dirt slinging monsters... perfect platforms to transform. I cannot see why a person could not do the same, but on a smaller scale.

I don’t think you’re wrong. The Traxxas rally car is fast enough, ground clearance fine but it doesn’t have the tight turn agility the road cars seem to have. Thats why I was leaning towards a smaller platform. Thanks for all the thoughts.

The Rally is a Slash so really 1/8 scale compared to a 1/10 TC. 🤷
The Rally is 1/8 scale compared to the likes of the 1/10 LC Racing Rally Car. The Traxxas Rally is the same overall size and wheel base as the CEN 1/8 Rally.

If you think a kit might work for you, take a look at the LC Racing PTG-2R

@OnwardGuinevere just built one, and it's a good looking car. Throw some Slash wheels and tires an a different body on it, and it might serve your needs.
