Machined Hex Driver Metric Set by DYNAMITE
DYN2904-250.jpg

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Shop/ByCategory/Product/Default.aspx?ProdID=DYN2904

I was in my LHS one day almost a year ago and I saw these drivers for $20. I needed some good drivers, but I was a little hesitant. I had a $7 set of "Allen" branded Allen wrenches and they worked fine, why put down 20 clams on three wrenches (1.5mm, 2.0mm and 2.5mm)? Today, my only regret that I have yet to round up the matching 3.0mm wrench they sell.

I've had these for a year and the tips have never worn. I've never ever ever had to "refresh" the tips with the dremel. I've never rounded out a quality screw. Sometimes, I put so much pressure on them that I can feel the shaft torquing under the strain. I'm always surprised when I do that and seconds later I hear the snap of the screw finally braking free. It's mind boggling that they put up with that abuse time and time again.

The DYNAMITE brand seems to be the cheapest set out there that still delivers the quality. There are other brands -- OFNA and Hudy to name a couple. I highly recommend these premium-type drivers for anyone in the hobby. It will make your wrenching sessions much easier.

Also, after you get some of these wrenches, you'll understand why the "hex head" screw sets are so desirable. You'll dread every time you have to pick up that philips headed driver.

Thought I'd share,
bigfreak

Yes I have a set of integy (old ones) and they are great they removed a couple of pre striped allen screws. My friend has the new ones and a few of the tips have broken.
Everyone should have a set of good allen drivers

A good set of hex drivers is a must. I have the Ofna set 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3mm sizes. I also have a 4 pc standard set made by Duratrax, they are actually very nice drivers. I have not had a problem with screws or the drivers since I got them.

I concur...I also have the integy ones....I did the same should I get them....NAH next ime BS that Bigfreak did...I had a day where 7 screws on my maxx were "Stripped" and I was just pissed.....I needed a few allen wrenches and decide to buy them from my LHS and all but 1 screw came right out.......Nitride coated O1 tool steel is dabomb.....

integy, trinity, ofna, hudy, dynamite. Is that all the companies that market them for RC?

I've seen a lot of similar looking drivers at the track. They all seem like the same deal. You have that really really shiny shank. It's always connected to a removeable head. The head is almost always a machined block of aluminum that's been anodized. The tips are secured with grubs scews.

It seems the black non shiny shanks are the ones that strip on you and have to be renewed with the dremel. Sound about right?

Yep. I have a brand new set on Integy drivers that i got on ebay a few weeks ago. Best money ever spent. I have no more stripped screws, even the cheapo ones. Highly reccomended!

I was at my LHS one day, and after being sick and tired of using the multi-combo ("Husky", work tools!) set i got at home depot, (or using the mini L types that come with the kit), I decided to crack down adn pay $20 for the set of 3 American hex heads. Suddenly backing out a looong set screw wasn't a problem. I enjoyed using my tools to repair!

They look hot, they feel real comfortable. The grip is great. They have a flat spot to prevent rolling away. Sure, they aren't color coated like Losi's (tho, I dont have a problem figuring out which tool to use for which screw) and they dont claim 'Titanium tips" - But its a lot better to get $20 for them, than what.. $50 for losi's? I've got the full set of standard, and all BUT teh 3MM for Metric. Seems that the 3mm is very elusive (On back-order for months now, checking @ my LHS)!

I would be in heaven if they came out with a full line of tools w/ that head set (Yes, I prefer to stick w/ sets.. not a few of this here, and a few of that there... or different model types, etc. I guess that explains why my 'personal' tool box is well.. still nonexistant. can't decide on Craftsman or Snap-on. Wont buy one without comitting. My work tools are scattered, but most part 1 or 2 names)

Craftsman vs Snap-On? Yikes you must have deep pockets! Snap-On is great but dayum they sure are expensive......

LoL Company discounts! I need to get more details, but last i heard - 40% off on Snap-On. It'll make it all worth while :) if its like 5% off or somethin like that, i'll probably start stocking up on Craftsman. (lifetime warranties!)
