hi, i was looking at my nitro truck yesterday and i heard a very large pop. so i just thought it was a bit of nitro in the engine as i was removing it yesterday. today i was looking at battery compartment and heard a sizzerling noise and i notiiced a durecell battery had exploded, its a normal AA size not recharchable. anyone else had his problem,

I have never had this happen, but I have seen it. It happens from time to time. A little baking power and h2o will clean it up, you want to be careful, as you dont want to get the junk on your skin.

I had that happen with some AA nimhs that I got out of hong kong; It turned out to be a shorted battery holder. You're best off to go with a 5 cell pack. It's cheaper in the long run, and you can pretty much seal the battery box and forget it.

I think Jet nailed it baking soda is a base and it will help neutralize the battery acid, not normal at all btw. Grab a nicd flat pack and be done with it.

whoaaaaa hold on, baking soda is sodium bicarb. that stuff fizzes in acid, plus the standard battery is alkaline; it either contains potassium hydroxide or manganese dioxide. i think it would be much simpler and easier to wear gloves, and clean the mess with a wet cloth.

just because batteries exploding isnt an everyday thing, it doesn't mean you have to treat it like the end of the world. the chemicals would probably cause rashes or whatever, not burns, so try to avoid contact, however if you do make contact, calm down, wash your hands and youll live another day.

BUT if you exploded a nicad, which i know you didnt, then its best to not touch it at all. cadmium is a heavy metal, like lead (ie in solder - makes you think, huh), and mercury. trust me i would know (my name). if you do touch it, wash it off immediately. its not going to kill you just yet, and better start making children as early as you can. the longer you delay it, the harder it gets, lol (dont worry its not that serious)

In that case I would delay it, since it's the most important part in the child making process. :celebrate:

We've got Nitro gurus, electric gurus, computer gurus, painting gurus, and now we have a chemist. Good to have you with us. We really enjoy a 'Go to' guru guy.

dude, seriously. That's like the 3rd time in two days. Get your head outta the gutter, man.
:stick: <-- haha, that's a stick

although since I'm only seventeen, i would have kept it going, but we all gotta grow up sometime. maybe some later than others, namely you. in conlcusion, :trout:

edit: hey lessen, to get him to stop, lets either ignore him and let him tire himself out, or better yet, try reverse psychology!!

Rolex, its the most fun, not necessarily the most important, hehehehehehe

Well honestly, I wouldn't REALLY want him to stop, it's much more entertaining to laugh and point :) I mean.. look at him  I know mom always said "don't stare".. but he's like Brian Peppers part II

google would help here if you don't get it.

looks like i did learn a few things in english. I'm selectively quoting to make my contention, then if we recall earlier on,

LMAO!!
Hey, I need a couple of volunteers to hold up targets for me down range. Will you two be available?

whooaa hang on poop! I've been working on airplanes since before you were a thought in you parents mind. Don't f'in tell me that every manufacturers manual is wrong. It's even a test question on the FAA exam to get your Airfram license! So back off kid and yes I'm having a poopy day!

I'm just saying jetmech that bicarb does nothing. absolutely nothing. you could try spitting at it or peeing all over your exploded batteries and i bet you could have better cleansing results than bicarb. bicarb is a base. standard batteries are bases. what effect will a base have on a base? make it more basic!!

bicarb will only have an affect on acids. acids such as the sulfuric you find in car batteries, the sealed lead acid batteries. how it works? well acid + base = neutral. so your faa exam question was correct. cos planes use lead acid batteries, not standard alkaline.

you must know that standard batteries, button batteries, photo batteries, super-heavy duty/alkaline batteries, nicads, nimh, lithium, lithium polymer, and lead acid batteries are all differently named, because of the different structure and/or compounds in it. you know yourself if you take apart a boeing 747 and a raptor, the insides look different. the outside may look slightly similar, but damn if the insides gona remotely the same.

if the batteries are different, most likely there are different cleaning methods. id love to see you handle a lithium battery with bicarb.

fizz...fizz.... bang!
