Battery charger suggestions

I got the Duratrax Ice......it is the same electronics as the triton (according to the local gurus) and it has a larger heat sink and more display options....it does not however do 24cell packs...only 10 cells....

the Ice is nice very easy to use.....even has a whole graph display I have NO freaking clue about but it sure looks cool.....I think the graphing feature will help me understand the battery characteristics better......New toys rule!!!

Besides it fits in my box very neatly (w/o Power supply)
and it has a motor break in feature I can use eventually......man this is the second item I went against everybodies advice from this site....I hope being the pioneer doesn't bite me in the ass on this and the XB8....LOL....it's all good if it breaks I just get to try new stuff right?

Sounds great, how much was it? What did you get for a power supply? You can't go too wrong anyway, charger tech has improved a lot in the last 2 years.

I paid 100 for the charger and I just got back from a lunch visit to the Electronics supply house and I got a 15A Tripp-Lite power supply for 75......list is like 140.....and TL is a very good brand in PS.....now I can use it for motor breakins as well.......I'm stoked I got all my pit stuff I've been meaning to update and a new (to me anyway) XB8......now i just need to see what condition my batts are in from long term abuse of no Cycling......Scott did you get the gear files I sent you? I know it's just the outer teeth but they are all the sizes I wanted to do.....hope you can use them seeing as how I don't have a use for them now....I don't suppose you could do a deal on some 4-6mm aluminum plate????? 12" x 5" .......I did my chassis and I used crap aluminum....it worked or the part was the right fit, just bent up really easy.....

Bringing this one back from the dead....

Are the Triton and ICE still the best multi-pack chargers to get? I received a Tower GC for my B-day and the Triton is on sale for $90 + free thermal probe. I'm leaning towards getting the Triton over the ICE.

I currently have an MRC 969, gel cell float charger, and a Thunder Power lipo charger. I'd like to simplify my charging needs and use one charger for everything.

yeah the triton will work for you. if you were racing electrics and had no need to charge lead acid, id say get the ICE. because it has more racing oriented features. but for everything you want to do, and run nitro, the triton is the better bet. and nobody else has come out with a comparable charger for the money yet.

btw. the triton and ICE are the same charger with different software FYI.

Thanks for the advice and info Corrado. I'm ordering the Triton today.

Hate to drag up old posts but can you get a plug to charge the mini batterys ? I got a rc10b 1/18 and the charger for it junk .. i didn't see a connector listed on tower hobbies

Yes you can charge just about any battery you want with it. You will need to make a charge lead with a pair of banana plugs and the connector from your current charger.

Sweat thanks this is my first electric rc everything else is a nitro

Does the Triton need a seperate power supply, and if so, what is everyone using? Model?

I am this site's biggest advocate of the Triton. I use it for everything, glow drivers, rx, tx, li-poly, rc car packs, and at this very moment mine is charging a deep-cycle 1:1 12V car battery.

I'll have to read up on it, but scott says he used it to charge lipos...

The triton needs a seperate power supply. I'm using a Samlex 15A regulated PS. It can also charge up to a 4c lipo.

I knew there had to be a reason they were blowing them out at Tower. lol

I really like my Triton, it charges all of my packs (rx packs, glow ignitor, tx packs, stick packs, lipo packs) without false peaking and my packs never get really hot to the touch, only slightly warm. I never use mine over 4 amps, so the additional amperage on the T2 is not a big deal. The blue backlight seems nice, and a nicer control wheel is a plus. My gripes with the T1 is the wheel sometimes slips into other menu options when pushed down and can be hard to turn because it sits so shallow.

I have an Ice and wish I would have gotten the Triton. After the fiasco I had this weekend with my Ice, I'm leaning towards the Triton. The freakin' Ice locked up on me and wouldn't do anything, so like any other computer I had to unplug it. I plugged it back in and took over an hour for it to completely come back to life. I also wish I had the ability to charge lead acids.

Hey sweet, there's a couple guys on eBay that sell kits to add backlighting to either the Triton or Ice.
