Finally had a chance to get started on an MBX5 lid that I'm shooting for a customer..

I'm going with a scheme to match up with these cool wing decals I picked up...

I'll post more pics as I go...

thats a sick layout! I really like that design. Keep it up bro!

Here's a shot after peelin back the liquid mask.. The dotted areas are where I will attempt some shading... lol I'm really hoping the new Iwata helps me out..
As far as a background color goes, I'm not really sure yet...

Thanks for the props guys...

Thats fuckin sweet man! Not impossibly hard mask job that smokes the competition = a true winner in my eyes :D can't wait till the final results! Alright if I take some ideas from this scheme? I love it :hehe:

Dayum the lid looks really nice already. Looking forward to seeing the finished work of art!

Thats really, really nice. The symmetry of it all would drive me crazy! :whip: :hehe: but thats just me.

Do you use a regular #11, or some kind of scalpel?

Still using the #11, just very slow and carefully.. It took a good hour to cut the pinstripes around each design.. I'm procrastinating on shooting the drop shadows...I dont want to screw it up... lol
I've been practicing on a few sheets of paper to try and get full control of the spray...

was this done freehand??
Whats the base color going to be?

It was kinda done freehand. I had half a stencil of a tribal flame from one of my sons toys. I trimmed it a bit, then started laying it out on the body. I freehanded most of it to bring it all together. The stencil just helped with keeping the symmetry of the design..

As far as a base color, I'm not sure yet.. lol I want something that will make it pop, but I just can't decide... Any ideas?

Blue and Orange are color opposites. Dont know how "good" it would look but it would def pop with a bright orange.

Alright, now your talkin crazy talk... lol Orange may be a bit drastic for a base color.. Orange pinstripes might have been cool though.. I'm most likely going to go with a white/Grey/Black scheme for a base... Now I have to just figure out how to lay it out...
