Hi guys,

I am thinking about getting a crawler. I am mostly a nitro racing guy, but I would like to try and enjoy other forms of RC.

Squirrel just had the Xr10 on his top list this year, and this is a model I have been really curious about.

I would be looking for an "intermediate" rig. Not super professional (I want to learn first) but still performing as good as can be in the middle range.
I have Lipo Charger and could go lipo/life... etc...

I have a couple questions:
What motors would you recommend? this extends to ESC and batteries :D Do I need two ESCs or one can deal with both motors?
What would be a good set of wheel/tires for "overall" use?

Also, needed hop-ups?

Thanks a lot guys.

Whats your budget?

Id run 3s on 35-45t motors. Preferably 35's on 3s, or go 4s and run 40-45t.

What radio will you be using?

A single mamba max, sidewinder, tekin fxr, holmes brxl and mamba pro will all work perfect. The BRXL can handle the 4s though, so can the mamba but its not advertised to.

A high torque servo of atleast 333oz would be the way to go. I run a 486oz Hitec on mine and really like it. You will need an external BEC.

The stock wheels pretty good. For tires, Rovers (white), sedona's, boss claws are all in my top three of the tires to run.

To run dig you will need a 3pos 3rd channel on your radio. The dx3e works good for that but theres alot better radios than it though but they will cost you more.

Punkrc dig switch is the best dig switch available. Rc4wd also has one and it is cheaper. It works pretty good too.

For hop ups, knuckles, c's and lockouts in aluminum. Axial, HR and Vanquish all have some available. The Vanquish are the nicest though.

AND bearings, the stock bearings are gonna go out and that will destroy your gears, most likely your transfer gear first. Acer bearings has a kit available for them though. But theres others out too. Just check Rpphobby.com and ckrccrawlers.com to see what they have listed for them.

Check out my build thread if you want.

Thanks a lot for your answer!

Budget is what I am trying to figure out... I usually prefer look for what I need then take the saving time to do it.
Planning on using my DX3S if feasible.

Do you have recommendations for motors?
I know nothing about electric RC (I have one electric RC, but appart from charging Lipos... Yes it is a toy to me).

I guess I would start without dig, then turning to dig when/if needed. Question is, how do you distribute electricity to "two" motors? is this a "y" cable running from the ESC to the two motors?
I guess the BEC would be to downsize electricity to 6 volts, any recommendations on this?

Finally in the hop-up, what do you call "c's"?

Again sorry for my newbness, Crawling as well as electric is brand new to me.

Really great Rig! I see your stock of parts in your pics... are those all hop-ups?

Integy 35's or 45t motors are a good budget motor. Stay away from novak. If you can get some integy's you will be happy with them until you can step into some nice handwounds, but they will cost you tripple of what the integy's will.

Dont worry about wiring the motors, its easy. Once you get everything, then we'll worry about that.

A dx3s doesn't have a 3pos switch so you wont beable to run a front/rear dig switch, but you could always upgrade later.
A bec is like a capacitor, it makes it so that your servo is always getting 6v of power, other wise the servo wont work properly.

C's are what the knuckles attach too.

Thanks a lot Slowngreen!

Checking prices for all this. I am ordering a new truggy in the coming days, I'll probably add most part for this (if I can fit it all).
Will come back for more questions soon :D

Just checked a couple prices... integy's 45T are 20 bucks? I was expecting something more in the 80 a motor... does it need additional items or is it something like plug and go?

If so, that's a 700/800$ rig... I have to recheck everything and make sure this is where I want to go.
Thanks a lot for your help!

yep their only $20ish. Just need solder for them and wire that's it. 700-800 is a good start for a nice rig. Including radio mine and robmobs are $1500 give or take.
