OK so I might have been bitten by the upgrade bug. I was tinkering with the idea of making my now updated Honcho with new Max 6 ESC 1650 KV can combo, into the truck that I have always dreamed of. The original intent was when I got the Jeep (got for an amazing price), to convert to Honcho later on, which happened a year later.
Then I decided, well what's next, and that was the ESC and Can with stellar results. I have upgraded the springs (softer purple), the shock towers, just minor stuff and also the servo to 80KGs.
I got to thinking, now I have a can and esc that is more than suitable for 6wd, will I be able to do it? Vitavon is not locally sold here, so importing and getting what I need without having to pay excessive duties is making me re-think how to do this.

So what I did was got into the instructions and redid these images to see if this would work.
I got rid of all the stuff in the drawings that was not relating to chassis, I can buy the frame for $160 landed, and it had me thinking, in the image 3, I could attach the 2 sub frames together with a part cut from another sub frame, I just don't know how strong it would be, with that extra weight on the 3rd axle. On that, I basically have all the parts to make another rear end, just need to buy the axle housing, diff, but have the wheels, suspension arms etc.
I started comparing Vitavon's images to how I could make mine, then realized, I still need the diff cover made to allow the middle to connect to the rear axle.
Then I was starting to really break it all down, how can I effectively get the best way to do this, without a compromise, so I went shopping for some stuff.
I can buy the whole rear chassis for around $1300 AUD, but the issue is, it is portal axle which means I need to have my middle and front with portals too.
This is a rabbit hole I am jumping down, so then I decided to check how I could get the front and rear housings without having to pay import duties, they cost $600 AUD landed without portals.
Then I need portals which cost another $400, so all up I am looking at around $2400 for the conversion, now it appears to be a large sum of money, but when I break it down as I can do it incrementally, I think I can almost justify it, plus this is my desert island truck, and given I can do this slowly, I think it's better than doing my own hack job.

I have a guilty pleasure of playing Snowtires, so this is in my blood, and yes I know I could buy a whole new other truck, but that saying YOLO, seems to resonate with me, you either go for it, or will forever be wondering, what if.
I spoke to my friend about this, he said he would never pay that much for a conversion, but I don't think he really understands the quality of parts that come with Vitavon.

If anyone has gone down this pathway, any advice would be greatly appreciated, I have pretty much made up my mind on the Vitavon pathway, because even if I do get the axles, that doesn't mean I am committed to doing the actual 6WD conversion, it just means I am able to have it 6WD ready with the same compatible parts.
The portals would be next, and again that does not mean I have to commit to 6WD, but makes it an easier upgrade path than having to buy it all in 1 go, which costs $1800 AUD without the front axle/portals.
The biggest issue here is, getting the right axles, the right portals and the right rear, eBay does not have this, nor does the Vitavon website, only Aliexpress allows me to buy all 3 with only having to pay import duty on the rear chassis.

I know this is long winded, I thank anyone that managed to get this far, a penny for your thoughts.

I don't know much about crawling, can't help answer your questions but I am following this now to see what you decide... thats a lot of loot for an RC but we love what we love so yeah🤷‍♀️😍👍

Good luck! This sounds like its going to be a beast! 😎

the vitavon is amazing no doubt, buut light years out of my price range, i have some of their gear on the ryft and its tough as can be, but for 2k i would have to pass, id get a few other trucks personally, but i feel your need for the 6x6scx6
its just freaking cool bro lol,

This is for a 4-link setup, but you need the Vitavon skid and single-speed transmission to make this work; it's not plug-n-play with factory SCX-6 transmission or skid.

so you have to get additional parts to replace, thats disheartening, unobtanium for this guy lol

Yeah I have seen that, the extra motor gear box single speed mount, that sort of pushes my $ to the limit. I think where I am going, as much as some may think it's an insane amount of money, this is most affordable way of getting my unobtainium 6WD without making it unobtanium unobtanium.
What can and esc are you running on this now? I almost regret not getting the Max 5 combo, but I know that would have cost me a ton in batteries.
It depends. I'd stay with it being a 3-link setup so the factory skid and trans will work.
Yeah this is my intention, I can justify the axles as I did do this with my Losi LMT and cheaped out, I got some no name brand, that was stupid on my behalf as the caps where the axles come out, the bolts were weak and snapped off on one.
I know Vitavon don't have this issue and only cost a little more than name brand axles housings like Treal or Injora. If anything, the Treal will cost me more than the Vitavon but wont allow me to have the portal axles.

Thanks for everyone's replies, I think you're getting me excited with my project, I can buy the axles this Wed if all is good, also the way I budget, I use Paypal in 4 which helps with the paying of this, that's why I don't mind putting money towards a project that I know is worth my time and effort.

I'm running the Hobbywing AXE R3 with the 1700kV setup on a small 1800 mAh 6s battery. Light weight and plenty of crawling power. I had the 3Brothers 860kV Blackjacket / Castle XXL ESC combo, but the outrunner noise was too much. Swapped to the HW system and couldn't be more pleased, especially with how light the setup is.

Yeah I have the Axe R3 in 200KV, for the size it is amazing, I stuck it in my Losi LMT then went back to stock set up in SCX6, that has been swapped out now to the MAX 6 G2.
I think my upgrade path is good due to newest esc motor combo, it will run 6S, but that's not saying I will. I actually bought a fan for the motor too, it gets hot a humid here where I live during Summer.

Here is someone running 12S on their 6WD, you've probably seen it, it's stupid and overkill, but that's why we do what we do I guess.

Not what I envision doing with mine.

EDIT, curious to what makes a 4 link system better or more unique, is it because it's just more stable, if yes, I can get this
which is the 4 link skid plate, will this allow my stock engine mount to work with it, or do I have to buy theirs?

EDIT, you answered above thanks. https://www.rctalk.com/forum/threads/axial-scx6-6x6-work-in-progress.147933/#post-1578361

4-link front setups have the advantage of symmetrical suspension movement on the truck. 3-link setups pull against the side of the chassis during dynamic changes, resulting in asymmetric forces and chassis arc movement due to the fixed pan-hard link. As the suspension moves up and down, the chassis of the truck is shifting side to side over the axles. The more suspension travel you have, the more shifting of the chassis.

I have found that 4-link setups make the truck a bit more predictable steering both left and right as the suspension cycles, but I'm talking on very steep, tilted climbs.

That said, there are so many other things going on with weight distribution and wheel base vs track width in your project build, that I would not worry about it and just stay with the 3-link setup. You'll never notice the difference.

Yeah I might be over thinking it here, it's just a park truck, one where I can walk my dog with, but I want something that is an end game truck that I know I will enjoy.
I have a bunch of other trucks, just that this seems like a better alternative than buying another truck like this.
There is something about the Honcho, with exposed rear end that just makes this a favorite of mine.

So the madness has started. I tried to get a local store to get them in for me, due to them having on their own website, that the have listed the brand. I emailed Vitavon and they said not a problem, but the store did not want to order in for me, so I will do it all myself.

My fan came in today for the can too, that was a complete cock up installing, but I got there in the end, even when I read the simple instructions, I still managed to get it wrong.
My next step is to get the portal axles, then the last part is the rear extension.
I will more than likely get the height links and also the single speed gear box that has 4 links, that will more than likely happen after the rear extended chassis.

This just arrived 7.30 am, issue is, I cannot install as have the other parts coming in, possibly the next week.
If I were to install this, I would just be taking it off again in a few days due to the links and portals.
The other 3 stuffs is awaiting departure at the airport, it's just a waiting game atm.
